An overnight trip with Andy where, on the first day, we undertook a survey of the former GN & GE Joint line from March to Spalding that I first visited almost forty-two years to the day previously! After an overnight stay in Peterborough that involved an inevitable curry, we travelled on the Coronation Deltic charter to Scarborough. This charter was postponed from May due to industrial action but, unfortunately, it did not quite to plan!

A relatively leisurely start found Andy and me heading to March in his ever-trusty Nissan Micra. Here we followed the route of the former GN & GE Joint route to Spalding that closed back in 1982. We discovered considerable pieces of infrastructure still in place including most of the signal boxes. It was sobering for me that I visited the line with Graham forty-two years previously almost to the day during its final full year of operation; where has that time gone? In the evening, after a most agreeable curry in Peterborough, Andy and I headed to the station for an hour or so before returning to our hotel. |

Andy and I arrived at Peterborough station in plenty of time in order to board The Coronation Deltic charter to Scarborough. All went well with us enjoying some spirited running behind the Deltic Preservation Society's 55009 'Alycidon' masquerading for the day, perhaps unluckily, as 55013 'The Black Watch'. However, on the return journey, things took a turn for the worst meaning a very late arrival back home! |
