After work and with a nice evening I took a short walk around my home village of Roade to capture a new unit test/mileage accumulation run but I also saw and photographed a lot of freight and all in an hour before going home for dinner!

66718, 13.55 Birch Coppice-London Gateway (4L68, 3E), Hyde Road bridge
66718 'Sir Peter Hendy CBE' leads the 4L68 13.55 Birch Coppice to London Gateway through Roade cutting seen from the village's Hyde Road bridge. The celebrity liveried GBRf Class 66 carries vinyls promoting transport throughout London in all of its various guises with particular reference to the London Transport Museum. Even back in 2010 when I first saw this locomotive its identity was still associated with TfL wearing striking orange Metronet vinyls celebrating the renewal of the tube and was named 'Gwyneth Dunwoody'.

66536, 90014 & 90049, 10.20 Trafford Park-Felixstowe North (4L90, 3E), Hyde Road bridge
Superpower for the 4L90 10.20 Trafford Park to Felixstowe Freightliner service as it passes Roade or it would be if all locomotives were in operation! With just the leading 66536 operational it would be working hard leading the fully loaded train as well as the two dead-in-tow 90014 ‘Over The Rainbow' and 90049. With reports that Freightliner are to sideline its AC locomotives due to the high costs of electricity in favour of their diesels, I wonder if the 90s were being moved for storage purposes.

66593 & 66508, 12.57 London Gateway-Garston (4M56, 17L), Hyde Road bridge
Having seen the southbound 4L90 triple-headed a short time earlier the northbound 4M56 is double-headed! I am not sure why the 12.57 London Gateway to Garston was being led by 66593 '3MG Mersey Multimodal Gateway' and 66508 with just the leading locomotive under power. As the train had run on time from the start I suspect failure was not the issue but rather it was a logistical move to return 66508 perhaps to Freightliner's depot at Crewe where the train had a lengthy and scheduled layover. The train is seen passing Roade from the village's Hyde Road bridge. Thanks to Mike and Freightmaster for identifying the trailing Class 66 whose number could not be seen from the photograph.

66554, 13.06 Ditton-Felixstowe North (4L92, 4L), Hyde Road bridge
Just catching some late afternoon sunshine as it passes through Roade cutting the 13.06 Ditton to Felixstowe 4L92 Freightliner is seen led by 66554. Up until this day I had only one other photograph of 66554 and this was last December on a very different sort of day, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30035738170/x66554-11-33-hanslope-junction-bescot

730013, 15.50 Soho LMD-Bletchley TMD (5Q13, 16L), Hyde Road bridge
Undertaking further testing, mileage accumulation and staff training runs West Midlands Trains' 730013 is seen passing Roade as the late running 5Q13 15.50 Soho Depot to Bletchley TMD. This is one of the three-car 7300XX sets of which forty-eight are due to enter service at the start of 2024 on the Birmingham Cross-City line enabling the withdrawal and cascading (of some) Class 323s.

66771, 14.20 Trafford Park-Felixstowe North (4L18, 8E), A508 bridge
The lightly loaded 4L18 14.20 Trafford Park to Felixstowe 'liner service passes through Roade seen from the A508 road bridge. It is being led by 66771 'Amanda' which is not one of my most photographed GBRf Class 66s. Notice the two pigeons standing on the portal in the lower left-hand corner totally uninterested in the train about to pass them!

325015, 16.16 Willesden PRDC-Warrington Royal Mail (1M96, 11L) & 66182, 13.20 Trafford Park-London Gateway (4L56, 6E), site of Roade station
The small fleet of fifteen DB Cargo-operated Class 325s still does sterling work on the WC ad ECMLs keeping many HGV movements off the packed motorways. The rear of the 1M16 16.16 Willesden Park Royal to Warrington Royal Mail is seen passing Roade with 325015 bringing up the rear with two unidentified units up at the front. As it heads north 66182 is just coming into view leading the 13.20 Trafford Park to London Gateway service.

66182, 13.20 Trafford Park-London Gateway (4L56, 6E), site of Roade station
DB liveried 66182 brings the 13,20 Trafford Park to Felixstowe 4L56 through Roade exiting the fabled cutting and passing the site of the village's former station. I never like images of 'liner service that are unloaded at the front making it like it's a light engine move and unbalancing the scene!
