Whilst I was aware of The North Wales Coastal Pullman I took my eye off the RTT ball on this day wrongly assuming that it would take the recently re-opened Oxford route from Basingstoke; I was wrong and missed it outward run hearing it pass near to my home whilst I was in the garden! I consoled myself with the fact that it was a dull morning with spits and spots of rain meaning that it would have been an underwhelming photograph! I managed to get it on its return in the evening which partially made up for my missed opportunity in the morning.

66763, 14.08 Garston-Dagenham Dock Reception (6L48, 5E), Victoria bridge
66763 'Severn Valley Railway' passes Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton leading the 14.08 Garston to Dagenham Docks empty cartic. Limited to sixty mph the 6L48 runs in the afternoon and into the evening presumably to cause less congestion as it makes its way south. Rather like the bottled water train, when empty these wagons make a lot of noise with a very distinctive resonance. Also, I always notice that the staff who unload the cars at Garston leave the large metal wheel chocks used to secure the load strewn about the flatbed wagons (towards the rear of this train). It always strikes me that these could easily vibrate themselves off the side of the wagons and be a potentially serious hazard to other railway users.

W43059, return leg of The North Wales Coastal Pullman, 16.00 Llandudno-Basingstoke, (1Z46, RT), Victoria bridge
The reproduction Blue Pullman HST is in popular demand for railtours all over the network offering a nostalgic combination of service and quality. Having missed the outward working in the morning I managed to get out and capture the returning North Wales Coastal Pullman charter passing Victoria bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire. With W43059 leading the 16.00 Llandudno to Basingstoke, running as 1Z46, certainly brightens up a rather dull early July evening.

W43046, return leg of The North Wales Coastal Pullman, 16.00 Llandudno-Basingstoke, (1Z46, RT), Victoria bridge
W43046 'Geoff Drury 1930-1999 Steam Preservation and Computerised Track Recording Pioneer' brings up the rear of the returning North Wales Coastal Pullman charter that left Llandudno at 16.00 returning to Basingstoke. The train is seen passing Victoria bridge just south of Roade. As well as being named, this power car also has the words, Midland Pullman applied just below the roof line whereas the leading power car, W43059, has just the word Pullman.
