I went out twice on this particular Sunday to photograph a variety of trains passing close to home in Roade and quite a variety they were too!

66181, 07.00 Camden South Junction-Bescot Engineers (6R02, 21E), site of Roade station
An early Sunday morning engineer's working from London is a pretty regular fixture, on some weeks there are two within a short time of each other. Running as 6R02 the 07.00 Camden South Junction to Bescot is seen passing Roade hauled by EWS liveried and branded 66181.

319457 & 319433, 15.29 Northampton EMD-Bletchley CS (5B99, 5E) & 390137, VT 14.47 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H27, 8L), Roade cutting
Whilst I have a number of photographs of London Northwestern's small fleet of retained Class 319s very few of them actually are of the trains in service. This one is no exception being of the 15.29 Northampton EMD (Siemens at Kings Heath) to Bletchley Carriage Sidings ECS move worked by 319457 and 319433. However, taking any photographs of these units is worth making an effort for as their demise is imminent with the new but troublesome in testing Class 730s entering service soon. In this photograph in Roade cutting, Avanti's 390137 also speeds north working the 14.47 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly service.

66506, 12.41 DIRFT-Tilbury (4L48, 178L), site of Roade station
Not the greatest composition is shown in this photograph but I was totally caught out by the passing of the 4L48 Tesco Express that was running nearly four hours late! The cause of the extensive delay could be a failure of one of DRS' locomotives that usually haul this service with them having to muster a replacement form somewhere or another. 66506 'Crewe Regeneration' hauls the beleaguered 12.41 DIRFT to Tilbury that eventually arrived some one hundred and seventy-eight minutes late past the site of Roade's former station.

66142, 11.33 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6M45, 62L), site of Roade station
In weak afternoon lighting 66142 'Maritime Intermodel Three' leads the daily 6M45 11.33 Dollands Moor to Daventry loaded bottled water train past Roade. This train (and its balancing southbound empty wagon service) are dependable daily workings on this section of the WCML and it is unusual to see either of them running late, an hour in this case due to problems in the Wembley area earlier on and then signalling problems in Milton Keynes.

66768, 13.08 Wembley Yard-Burton-ot-Wetmore (5Z64, 117L), site of Roade station
Having been waiting on this bridge at Roade for some time it had become clear that there were problems somewhere south. Indeed, for the second day running there were signalling issues at Milton Keynes with all trains appearing to have been stopped with every signal on OpenTrainTimes showing red. With Sunday evening dinner time fast approaching I was on the verge of heading for home when 5Z64, which had been stationary for ages between Milton Keynes and Bletchley, was on the move again. To make it even more interesting, when the 13.08 Wembley Yard to Burton-ot-Wetmore ECS working got to Hanslope it was put on the fast line to avoid a very congested Northampton I suspect. Now, nearly two hours late, the superb retro. Mk. II set used for railtour duties the previous day are seen passing Roade hauled by a customary smartly presented GBRf 66768.
