I took my Sunday afternoon walk around the village to coincide with a freight and an interesting light engine move. On arrival at Roade cutting I found some strange goings on affecting the up and down fast lines.

66785, 12.34 Wembley Reception Sidings-Hams Hall (4G13, 9E), Roade cutting
Hooray: A photographic cop! I have been trying to get pictures of a small batch of higher-numbered Class 66s but they have evaded my lens but not today. Imported from Sweden, adapted and entering service for GBRf in 2019, 66785 leads the 4G13 12.34 Wembley to Hams Hall service through Roade cutting.

37884, 12.00 Derby RTC-Wembley Yard (0H72, 7E), Roade cutting
had spotted the path for a light engine on RTT when studying it for the forthcoming day as I do most mornings (I need to get a life really don’t I!). Come its departure time nothing was showing on RTT so I suspected that it would not run, but suddenly, whilst eating my lunch, half an hour after its scheduled departure time it was off and running! Running now some twenty minutes late, 37884 ‘Cepheus’ accelerates through Roade cutting running as 0H72, the 12.00 Derby RTC to Wembley Yard. I suspect that it will be involved in some sort of movement of a scrap train in the forthcoming week to Newport (Sims Group).

221110, VT 12.06 Wrexham General-London Euston (1A28, 16L) & 390154, VT 13.32 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H68, 10L), Roade cutting
This appears to be a perfectly normal scene in Roade cutting but looks can be deceiving! Both Avanti services were running at barely walking pace, as were all trains on the fast line in the vicinity. All up services were being Brought to a halt at the signal just beyond the bridge in this view, held and then permitted to move to the next signal. At one point 221110 working the 1A28 12.06 Wrexham to Euston was held in full view of the proceeding Pendolino held at the next signal. This went on for some time with all trains picking up considerable delays with northbound trains also being delayed but less so. 390154 is seen working the 13.32 Euston to Manchester service on the down fast line.

390112, VT 12.43 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1A30, 5L), site of Roade station
With problems continuing to affect the up and down fast lines with trains be stopped and permitted to move at a walking pace almost from signal to signal control decided to move some to the slow lines meaning they would travel via Northampton. 390112 was one such train seen passing the site of Roade station working the 12.43 Liverpool to Euston Avanti service. This train arrived just five minutes late into Euston with most of the others, that stuck to the existing route, coming many minutes later.
