I must be mad! What quite possessed me to get up at an unearthly hour to then drive to Old Linslade and photograph two charters on such a dark and miserable March morning I do not know? However, the things that we do in pursuit of our hobby drives us to undertake such crazy activity. I even came straight home afterwards rather than stopping off to charge the car and have some breakfast only to find my wife still tucked up in bed!

90001, outward leg of 'The Golden Arrow', 05.22 Birmingham International-Canterbury West (1Z12, 12E), Old Linslade
In what is probably not even half light at 07.01 LSL's 90001 ‘Wolf of Badenoch’ passes Old Linslade just north of Leighton Buzzard. I was delighted that the AC electric was leading instead of the advertised Class 47 as if this had been the case it would have probably been indiscernible from the background. The camera has really had its work cut out, aided by some Photoshop jiggery-pokery, to capture the outward leg of 'The Golden Arrow' charter that left Birmingham International at 05.22 and was heading to Canterbury West with steam in the form of 34046 'Braunton' taking over in Acton Yard.

45699 (45627), outward leg of 'The Cheshireman', 06.50 London Euston-Chester (1Z33, 1L), Old Linslade
I saw this same steam locomotive a few weeks back down in the West Country, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30036747383/x45699-galatea-45627-sierra-leone but seeing it on what would have been more of its traditionally associated natural home got me out early on this miserable and grey March morning. 45699 'Galatea' masquerading as 45627 'Sierra Leone' races along the down slow line at Old Linslade just north of Leighton Buzzard. It was leading the 1Z33 'Cheshireman' charter from Euston to Chester where it arrived just one minute late. Notice that there are a number of other enthusiasts out who are equally as silly as me to witness the event.
