Maintaining my tradition of a Christmas Eve walk to take a few railway photographs I took my camera around the village with me. It was a pretty dull day but the record shots keep up my pattern over the last few years!

390154, VT 10.48 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H13, 13L), Roade cutting Avanti's 390154 heads north through Roade cutting working the 10.48 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly service. It is hard to believe it but 2023 will mark twenty-one years of Pendolino operations. Love them or hate them one cannot argue over what an enduring design they have proved themselves to be over this time. 390131, VT 10.15 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A26, 6L), Roade cutting 390131 'City of Liverpool' passes under what will be the A508 road bridge when it opens sometime next year taking traffic away from the village of Roade. The Pendolino is working the 1A26 10.15 Manchester Piccadilly to Euston service. Class 350, LN 10.55 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (Cancelled from Birmingham International) (1Y29, 2L), Roade cutting By the end of 2023, the new bridge seen here spanning Roade cutting should be carrying traffic away from Roade's busy village, bringing its residents relief. An unidentified Class 350 Desiro can just be seen passing under the bridge deep in the cutting. Once access to the bridge is permitted it will be interesting to see what new perspectives it will offer the railway photographer but I suspect that a stout pair of steps will be a requirement! 390002, VT 11.33 London Euston-Liverpool Lime Street (1F18, 2E), site of Roade station 390002 'Stephen Sutton' heads past the site of Roade's former station working the 11.33 Euston to Liverpool Lime Street train. I was getting concerned that vegetation re-growth in the foreground was getting a little out of control and that this excellent spot to take photographs of down services would become problematic again. However, as can be seen here, contractors have once again cleared the greenery thus enabling a clear view for a couple more years at least. 390156, VT 11.25 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H65, 31L) & 390135, 08.38 Glasgow Central-London Euston (1T09, 2L), Ashton Road bridge A pair of Avanti West Coast Pendolinos pass just south of Roade seen from Ashton Road bridge that has recently reopened after a three-week closure to re-build one of the parapet walls. To the left 390156 'Pride and Prosperity' heads north with the 1H56 11.25 Euston to Manchester service. Whilst to the right, 390135 'City of Lancaster' passes south working the 08.38 Glasgow Central to Euston service. 88005, 12.08 DIRFT-Tilbury (4Z48, 9L), Milton Malsor On my way to Tesco in Northampton for a quick last-minute Christmas Eve present dash I paused in the village of Milton Malsor as what was one of the very few freights of this day was due to pass. I was a little rushed, hence the locomotive's unfortunate positioning being partially obscured. 88005 'Minerva' leads the 12.08 Daventry (DIRFT) to Tilbury Tesco Express. Having always carried the reporting number of 4L48 of late it has been carrying 4Z48 in line with some other changes to such numbers that appears to be linked to various industrial action taking place and consequential changes to services.
