With the sun shining and me due a break in between the chores at home (on my day off from work; my wife drives me very hard!) I took a walk to Roade cutting to see what was about for an hour or so. Peak freight during the day is between 13.00 and 15.00 so I was a little disappointed to see just three non-passenger trains but I did hear two others as I was walking from home towards the line!

New warning signage, Muddy Lane bridge
What on earth! Some busybody with nothing better to do has had a look at the bridges that span Roade cutting and deemed that people need to be warned about the live wires that are positioned some thirty feet below. And not content to install just one sign they have installed twelve of these signs with six on each side. What an utter waste of taxpayers' money but it did give somebody a job to do I suppose.
66554, 07.50 Felixstowe North-Lawley Street (4M94, 16L), Roade cutting
With an up Desiro just coming into shot 66554 heads north leading the 07.50 Felixstowe North to Lawley Street Freightliner service. I have not framed the freight particularly well to show the well-loaded 4M94 service passing through Roade cutting with the tail of the train out of view around the curve.

66051, 06.53 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6M45, 4E), Roade cutting
A significant photographic cop (In this livery at least) in Roade cutting! 66051 'Maritime Intermodal Four' is the final one of the eight Maritime liveried (but GBRF operated) Class 66s to be captured by my lens. It is seen passing through Roade cutting leading the 6M45 06.53 Dollands Moor to Daventry (DIRFT) bottled water train. Whilst my photographic quest is over the only image that I have of 66162 'Maritime Intermodal Five' is a little disappointing, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30031287625/x66162-maritime-intermodal-five-66069 being taken from a distance from Toton's infamous bank so a better image is in order!

66429, 10.02 Tilbury-DIRFT (4M07, 12E), site of Roade station
The 4M07 DRS operated 10.02 Tilbury docks to Daventry (DIRFT) Tesco service approaches the site of Roade's former station with 66429 leading. This is a 'go-to' spot for afternoon photography summer or winter offering wide and unrestricted views of the line looking south but if the subject is on the slow line, as is the case here, then the risk of being bowled is ever-present. With the Pendolino seen in the background approaching very fast I just avoided missing out by a few seconds on this occasion!
