On a stunning November afternoon, I walked out from home in between jobs for a Saturday constitutional with my camera over my shoulder just in case! I was rewarded with a much sought-after reward of a Class 66 in BR blue and wearing the famous double arrow on the side...yes my first sighting of 66789!

390122, VT 09.30 Glasgow Central-London Euston (1Z10, 11E), Victoria bridge
390122 'Penny the Pendolino' sweeps around a curve just south of Roade in Northamptonshire working the 09.30 Glasgow Central to London Euston Avanti service. With Avanti West Coast still in difficulties and working under a notice to improve they have re-cast their timetable that also includes many of their train reporting numbers. In this particular case, this one was operating as 1Z10 one that a charter would ordinarily use with Z being used for charters, railtours, emergency trains or as-required locomotive moves.

The perils of photographing when the sun is so low in the sky! Outside of the winter months, this view is lit on a sunny day, if a little from the side, but not well into November. 390008 'Charles Rennie Mackintosh' passes Victoria bridge just south of Roade working the 1F18 13.02 Euston to Liverpool Lime Street service.

66789, 11.39 London Gateway-Hams Hall (4M47, 44L), Victoria bridge
66789 'British Rail 1948-1997' was re-liveried and named in February 2018 and has evaded my camera ever since! I was not aware that it was leading the 4M47 11.39 London Gateway to Hams Hall service so when it passed I was particularly pleased that I had made the spontaneous walk out from home! The only disappointment was that it is largely in shadow due to the low-angled sun but a capture is a capture!

350231 & 350114, LN 14.05 Northampton-London Euston (2N10, 2L), Victoria bridge
Despite it being early November the sun is out and it is extraordinarily mild to the extent that I was able to walk out from home in shorts! Indeed, the following day (Sunday 13th November) saw the warmest day at 21.5 degrees celsius recorded in North Wales at the latest point in any year. 350231 and 350114 pass Victoria bridge near Roade (seen in the background) working the 14.05 Northampton to Euston service.

66182, 14.05 DIRFT-Dollands Moor (6O67, 7L), Victoria bridge
Just managing to catch the low-angled sunshine on this extremely warm November afternoon 66182 heads south between Roade and Ashton leading the daily 6O67 14.06 Daventry (DIRFT) to Dollands Moor empty ferrywagons. This is the balancing service to the bottled water train that comes in from the continent arriving at DIRFT earlier in the day. The empty stock seen here was yesterday's inbound loaded train.

66526, 13.47 Wembley Yard-Lawley Street (0Z56, 85E), Victoria bridge
66526 'Driver Steve Dunn (George)' passes Victoria bridge south of Roade as the 13.56 Wembley Yard to Lawley Street 0Z56 light engine working. The routing of this locomotive here is a little unusual and nearly caught me out as control decided to put it on the down fast line from Hanslope Junction (about three miles south of this point). This decision meant that the loco. would avoid Northampton thus meaning that any enthusiasts hoping to capture it on the loop would have been disappointed!
