On my way home from work for the second week on the trot I was able to stop off and capture the passage of LSL's 'Friday charter' as it passed through Northamptonshire. This week 90002 was doing the honours and very smart it looked too!

390129, VT 17.39 London Euston-Glasgow Central (9S96, 2L), Bugbrooke footbridge
In atrocious early evening light that almost persuaded me to head for home rather than stop off returning from work 390129 'City of Stoke-on-Trent' passes Bugbrooke on the Weedon loop that avoids passing through Northampton. The Pendolino, working the 17.39 Euston to Glasgow, was one of just two that I saw in thirty minutes by the side of the WCML and this was on a Friday evening! This is the actual effect that Avanti's appalling slashing of services has had on the passage of trains. I had such high hopes for the company when they took over from Virgin in December 2019 but they have proved to be a very poor operator. With their managing director having now resigned with immediate effect it is now time that, like a number of other operators, their franchise is stipped and that the state takes over which is as the railways should be run.

90002, LS 17.42 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1Z41, 1L), Milton crossing
With Avanti having slashed their services on the West Coast routes, particularly those to and from Manchester Piccadilly, almost in half Crewe-based LSL saw an opportunity to operate a Friday's only return service utilising their superb rake if first-class Mk. III stock. This is their third week (of four planned) of operation and they are using 90002 'Wolf of Badenoch' to haul the train. They have operated a walk-on or advance flat fare of £75 that knocks Avanti's equivalent price into touch! In particularly poor lighting the train is seen passing Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire running bang on time as it did throughout its journey to Piccadilly via Crewe.
