LSL's second week of three running a return service train to and from Euston got me out of work to capture it passing locally near to Northampton. A couple of hours later I went out again to see it return.

390127, VT 13.47 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1A39, 1L) & Class 350 14.46 London Euston-Crewe (1U39, 4L), Banbury Lane bridge
Near perfect timing on the Weedon loop line west of Northampton at Banbury Lane bridge sees 390127 about to cross an unidentified Class 350 working northwards. The Pendolino is working the 1A39 13.47 Liverpool LImes street to Euston whilst the Desiro the 14.46 Euston to Crewe 'fast' service.

82139, LS 14.29 Crewe-London Euston (1Z40, 7L), Banbury Road bridge
Evoking an era dating back thirty years or so a perfect matching set of Intercity Swallow liveried stock, DVT and locomotive sweep along the West Coast Mainline operating what is ostensibly a service train. Locomotive Services Limited is operating what is actually classified as a charter but in reality, is a service train that anybody can join in order to get to London from Crewe and then back to Piccadilly again later in the early evening. This all comes in response to Avanti West Coasts' controversial temporary (but for how long?) decision to slash their return Manchester to Euston services. DVT 82139 leads the 1Z40 14.29 Crewe to Euston service past Banbury Lane crossing on the Weedon loop with 87002 'Royal Sovereign' providing the power at the rear.

87002, LS 17.42 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1Z41, 6L), Milton crossing
In rather flat lighting 87002 'Royal Sovereign' leads the eveing 1Z41 17.42 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly service that is operating as a charter but that anybody can use in order to get home northwards with stops at Birmingham International, New Street, Wolverhampton, Stafford, Crewe and Wilmslow. LSL appear to be sampling the market with this service stating on the website, 'If you are looking to head north on a Friday, this charter train can take you there in comfort and style without the stress of normal rail services.' It is initially operating for three weeks in the light of Avanti's shocking decision to slash their Euston to Piccadilly (and return) services. The train is seen passing Milton crossing just north of Roade.
