A bright but very chilly morning got me out to see the up sleeper. Later in the day, it had clouded up but this did not deter me from nipping out to see the unusual sight of a top and tailed Class 56 working.

390114, VT 05.46 Wolverhampton-London Euston (1B02, 2E), Milton crossing
In lovely early morning light 390114 'City of Manchester' passes Milton crossing between Blisworth and Roade working the 05.46 Wolverhampton to Euston service. However, the bright spring sunshine belies the fact that there was a strong north-easterly wind blowing that caught me out finding me underdressed for the ocassion!

92020, CS 20.45 Inverness & 19.50 Fort William-London Euston (1M16, 2E), Milton crossing
92020 'Billy Stirling' runs bang on time past Milton crossing just north of Roade cutting on a bright spring morning. It is leading the up Highland Sleeper that is composed of three trains that join together at Edinburgh that start from Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen. Evoking days of the secondman note that there are two members of staff in the cab of 92020, perhaps some staff training is taking place?

56081 & 56091, 17.00 Wembley Depot-Leicester LIP (5F90, 20E), Victoria bridge
A rather tatty 56081 leads a couple of barrier coaches past Victoria bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire. The Class 56, dating from the summer of 1980, is leading the 17.00 Wembley Depot to Leicester LIP move running as 5F90. Just visible at the rear of the short train is 56091 'Driver Wayne Gaskell The Godfather'

I am not a particular fan of 'going away' photographs but when the subject is a Class 56 on the mainline it's got to be worth it! 56091 'Driver Wayne Gaskell the Godfather' sist dead in tow at the rear of the 17.00 Wembley Depot to Leicester LIP move transporting some barrier coaches back to UKRL Leicester depot.
