With a day off work, a quick scan of RTT revealed what would be an HST returning from Arlington's facility (Eastleigh) to its base at Crewe conveying a freshly refurbished coach. Earlier in the day, I nipped out for a few freights in Roade cutting.

350410, LN 12.25 Northampton-London Euston (1Y20, 1L), Roade cutting
Further work continues in Roade cutting as preparations for the new bridge that will be constructed to carry Roade's much-needed bypass across the railway. I spoke with the two Network Rail employees and they told me that the solar panels are providing electrical power to the movement monitors that have been installed where the bridge will be constructed amid constant concerns about the stability of the cutting walls and slopes. I also quizzed them about the design of the bridge with no published detail yet available. They said that they had seen the plans and that it will be a stained naturally resisting steel structure rather than one of the more favoured green monstrosities that seem all too common. 350410 leads another unit through the cutting working the 1Y20 12.25 Northampton to Euston service.

66415, 07.50 Felixstowe North-Lawley Street (4M94, 24E), Roade cutting
Brightening up the gloomy depths of Roade cutting 66415 'You Are Never Alone' heads north leading the 4M94 07.50 Felixstowe to Lawley Sreet Freightliner. Unlike what I have witnessed in the first few weeks of the year Freightliner and other services appear to be much better loaded now after a period of very lightly loaded services.

66533 & 66534, 09.31 Crewe BH-Southampton MCT (4O35, 8E), Roade cutting
Both named and consecutively numbered 66533 'OOC Express' and 66534 'Hanjin Express/Senator Express' lead the 09.31 Crewe Basford Hall to Southampton Freightliner through Roade cutting at a pretty pedestrian pace. One reason for its slow progress on the long drag south away from Northampton is that the train was very long and well loaded and that only 66533 was under power with 66534 switched off and seemingly just going along for the ride!

66130, 06.53 Dollands Moor-DIRFT (6M45, RT), Roade cutting
With the daily 6M45 back to its normal length, the status quo appears to have been restored after several weeks of it being very short and even with a couple of boxes attached to the rear of the train. Regular DB performer 66130 leads the 06.53 Dollands Moor to Daventry (DIRFT) through Roade cutting bang on its booked time.

43058 & 43059, 11.10 Eastleigh Arlington-Crewe HS (5Z44), site of Roade station
Superpower for just one Mk. III coach as it passes Roade in some brighter afternoon sunshine. Wearing Rail Charter Services livery former EMR power cars 43058 and 43059 work the 5Z44 11.10 Eastleigh (Arlington) to Crewe HS move conveying coach 41108 that had been receiving attention at the Hampshire facility. The enduring popularity of these fine trains remains as strong as ever with these two power cars expected to be working in the northwest for another summer on the Staycation Express services. I photographed both of these power cars when in service with EMR, for example, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/24862204204/x43045-43076-1b73-harrowden-junction
