On the summer and winter equinoxes, I try to get out and take some railway photographs. On the 2014 winter equinox I took a walk to Roade cutting to take a few photgraphs on what was actually a pleasant winter's day.

Class 390, VT 10.38 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1A14), Roade cutting
An unidentified Class 390 Pendolino speeds southwards through Roade cutting working the 10.38 Liverpool to Euston train. Even though it is just 12.30 the sun has already gone round and dropped such that the up fast line is in shadow on what is the shortest day of the year.

350368 & 350128, LM 11.14 Birmingham New Street-London Euston (2Y09), Roade cutting
The 11.14 Birmingham New Street to Euston train passes through Roade cutting worked by a pair of London Midland's ever-reliable Desiros. These units have been in operation for eight years on this route now and have proved to be incredibly reliable. I suspect that they will continue to ply their trade between Euston and all stations north as far as Crewe for some time to come yet!

350128 & 350111, LM 11.24 London Euston-Birmingham New Street & Crewe (2Y18), Roade cutting
350128 and 350111 work the 11.24 London Euston to Birmingham and Crewe service through Roade cutting. However, both units will not end up in Crew with the train being split on arrival at New Street with just 350128 working forward. This will leave another southbound unit from Crewe to join to the rear of 35011 to then return to London. However, all has not been going well with Lonon Mildand's split trains with delays playing havoc with the logistics so I wonder if this service pattern will return again in the 2015/16 timetable?

66109, 10.35 Watford Junction-Bescot up engineers' sidings, Roade cutting
Unfortunately, I do not have the reporting number of this engineering train unless somebody out there can advise? 66109 in its as-built EWS livery leads the 10.35 Watford Junction to Bescot engineering train through Roade cutting. Unusually for this type of train the locomotive eas working alone with no top and tail arrangement.

Class 221, VT 11.28 Chester-London Euston, (1A19), Roade cutting
An unidentified Virgin Voyager roars its way through Roade cutting working the Sunday's 11.28 Chester to Euston 1A19 service. This particular Class 221 looks very smart and as if it has been in receipt of some attention in the depot or even some sort of re-paint?
