On a foul morning, I headed to Wellingborough in my Combo van to see 'The Royal Highland Pullman' being operated by the nanking blue painted HST set. Despite the awful weather, the station was busy with enthusiasts also eager to see the train that has quickly adopted a cult status.

43046 'Geoff Drury 1930-1999 Steam Preservation and Computerised Track Recording Pioneer' brightens up a very dull and wet morning at Wellingborough station leading the outward leg of the three-day Royal Highland Pullman charter. It is not clear in this photograph but it is actually on the MML down slow line that has recently been reinstated. With all the electrification paraphernalia the view is extremely cluttered and is actually better when viewing the fast line from the end of platform two. In addition, the innocent-looking sapling in the foreground will soon create issues unless NR does what it ought to do to all of its trackside, clear it as appropriate!

43055, outward leg of The Royal Highland Pullman, 07.39 London St. Pancras-Inverness (1Z90, RT) & 360119, EM 08.40 Corby-London St. Pancras (1H21, 2L), Wellingborough station
The first time that I have photographed two trains at Wellingborough's recently reinstated platforms three and four at the same time. To the left Midland Pullman HST 43055 sits at the ear of the outward 1Z90 Royal Highland Pullman charter; a three day extravaganza to Scotland including a run down the incredible line to Kyle of Lochalsh. The reflection of 360119's high-intensity lights shows strongly on the side of the HST as it waits to depart with the 08.40 Corby to St. Pancras local 'stopper'.

43055 powers the rear of The Royal Highland Pullman away from Wellingborough station having taken on some passengers and their bags looking forward to an extended trip to Scotland. Running as 1Z90 the train left St. Pancras just about an hour previously and would terminate on-time at Inverness in the early evening. Despite the dull conditions, the shine from the superb paintwork of the nanking blue HST was incredible testament to the excellent work of staff at Arlington's in Eastleigh.
