On route to a charity gig in the evening I persuaded my wife that we could pause our journey at Northampton so that I could capture the returning Cheshireman charter. So I presented myself on Northampton station suitably booted and suited taking photographs of trains!

With Northampton's new station footbridge illuminated and, for all intents and purposes, complete it is yet to open to the public with the temporary structure seen towards the back of the photograph still in use. 350252 pauses at platform one with the evening 2Y46 19.14 Birmingham New Street to Euston London Midland service.

350246, stabled, Northampton Riverside Sidings
350246 sits stabled in Northampton's Riverside sidings. Not the finest time exposure that has needed a fair amount of work in Photoshop to 'correct' the colour cast thrown by the confusing lighting types (to the camera's sensor that is!).

60009, return leg of The Cheshireman, 17.01 Chester-London Euston (1Z92), Northampton station
The returning Cheshireman charter was scheduled to stop at Northampton's platform one. However, due to conflicting movements and a late-running London Midland service, it was moved to platform two as shown here. Unfortunately, this made for an awkward position to photograph it tight up against the new footbridge. 60009 'Union of South Africa' waits whilst passengers disembark having enjoyed a steam-hauled return trip to Chester whilst a young admirer who has cabbed the A4 has his picture taken by his father in time-honoured tradition!
