Prior to meeting up at the superb American Museum (Claverton, near Bath) I took an hour or so at Berkley near Frome enjoying some magnificent early morning lighting.

166204, GW 06.42 Weymouth-Filton Abbey Wood (2V71, RT), Berkley ST802494 I lovely early morning lighting the 06.42 Weymouth to Filton Abbey Wood GWR service is passing Berkley just to the east of Frome worked by 166204. This is a location that I have visited many times and one that still offers great photographic views in both directions. 59202, 07.12 Merehead-Acton TC (7A09, 4E), Berkley ST808497 Looking very smart in its Genesee & Wyoming livery 59202 leads the 7A09 07.12 Merehead to Acton loaded stone train. The train is passing Berkley just east of Frome in some lovely early morning autumn light. It is interesting to note how the town of Frome has spread and now encroaches on the skyline of this otherwise rural scene. Class 80X, 07.05 London Paddington-Paignton (1C70, 1E), Berkley ST808497 Having left Paddington eighty minutes previously the 07.05 Paddington to Paignton 1C70 service approaches Frome near the village of Berkley. Unfortunately, I was unable to identify the number of this particular IET set as immediately to my left was a large 'phone mast and its associated buildings that blocked my view. 802008 & 802010, GW 05.05 Penzance-London Paddington (1A73, 9L), Berkley ST808497 Two five-car IET Class 802 units work the 1A73 05.05 Penzance to Paddington service past Berkley near to Frome in Somerset. I have taken many photographs at this lovely location over the years. 802107, GW 07.13 Paignton-London Paddington (1A74, 1L), Berkley ST808497 A nine coach IET set passes Berkley between Frome and Westbury working the 07.13 Paignton to Paddington service. 802020 & 802022, GW 07.04 London Paddington-Penzance (1C72, 3E), Berkley ST808497 802020 and 802022 work the 07.04 Paddington to Penzance GWR service past Berkley on the approach to Frome. The leading unit is instantly recognisable due to its unique livery applied during the COVID pandemic saying 'Thank You Keyworker' in one hundred and sixteen languages. 59202, 06.41 Acton-Merehead (7C29, 14E), Berkley ST808497 I had been monitoring the progress of the 7C29 06.41 Acton to Merehead empty stone train as it made its way along the Berks. and Hants. line for an hour or so.
