Forty-five minutes at Westbury saw a fair amount of action. The Wiltshire town remains a busy place for freight and as such is popular with enthusiasts, a number of whom were encamped on the platforms enjoying some warm autumnal sunshine.

166210, GW 11.11 Westbury-Southampton Central (2O05, 2L), Westbury station
GWR's 166210 stands at Westbury station. It will soon work the 11.11 service to Southampton Central a journey that will take in some delightful countryside travelling through south Wiltshire and Hampshire taking in the city of Salisbury on its way.

66098 & 66116, 08.50 Westbury-St. Blazey (3J13, RT), Westbury station
As it is the start of the autumn 2021 RHTT season 66098 still looks relatively clean and I was also able to see that 66116 leading at the front was in a similar state. The RHTT operations seem to have got going a little early this year with the leaves not showing any determined attempt to let go from the branches just yet! The two 66s are working the 08.50 Westbury to St. Blazey train that I believe operates as 3J13 (unless anybody else can inform me otherwise)

70812, running round, Westbury station
Westbury has become a bit of a centre for Class 70 operations with plenty members of the class found around the station and the yard slightly to the west. 70812 has just run up from the yard and is about to return again to join the front of an infrastructure train that it will work later in the morning.

802101, GW 09.37 London Paddington-Paignton (1C75, 12L) & 166201, GW 09.27 Cardiff Central-Portsmouth Harbour (1F11, 4L), Westbury station
A busy scene at Westbury station was added to by some of the gathered enthusiasts who always seem to frequent the platforms at this active place in deepest Wiltshire! To the left 166201 is impatiently waiting to leave with the now late-running 09.27 Cardiff Central Portsmouth Harbour service. The reason for its impatience is that it is a connecting service with the 09.37 Paddington to Penzance train that is seen arriving some ten minutes late being worked by 802201. Things did not improve for the 1C75 as it did not make up its lost time arriving at its Devon destination twelve minutes late. It looks as though the leading cab has been in collision with some poor unfortunate creature on its journey from London!

70813 & 70811, running round, Westbury station
A further two members of the thirty-seven strong Class 70s run round at Westbury to position themselves for infrastructure duties. 70813 and 70811 are operated by Colas Railfreight adorned in their rather garish livery that certainly stands out! Living close to the WCML in Northamptonshire Class 70s are not a particularly common sight leaving me with a bit of a dearth when it comes to photographs of them and I know that my long time railway companion, Andy, is in the same situation; perhaps we need some more visits to Westbury!

166214, GW 08.23 Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central (Cancelled from Newport) (1F10, 60L), Westbury station
With a rapid crew change having just taken place at Westbury station 166214 will soon get underway again working the 1F10 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central service. Unfortunately, there will be a lot of fare repay claims from this service as it was already running fifty minutes late, a situation that did not improve with it being terminated at Newport now an hour adrift.

Westbury PSB (BR, 1984)
When Westbury power box was opened in the spring of 1984 I, along with many others, cursed it as it precipitated the closure of a number of superb mechanical boxes along the Berks. and Hants. route including four in the Westbury area alone (Heywood Road, Hawkeridge Junction, Westbury North and Fairwood Junction). Now some nearly forty years later this box itself has a limited life with it due to close in the next few years as Network Rail (or GBR as it is to become) rolls out its regional signalling centre programme rendering it redundant.

66094, running round, Westbury station
I am not sure where 66094 had appeared from but it had come in from the Trowbridge direction. It was signalled to enter the yard and then disappeared out of sight. This is my first photograph of this locomotive in its DB livery, just over a year ago it was still in its as-built EWS paint scheme, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29019904204/x66094-14-47-dirft-dollands-moor
