2. The Essex Coast Express

Getting on to the platforms at Liverpool Street is always a challenge with extremely strict gateline staff rarely permitting access. Even today on the day that a charter was due in it was frowned upon but I was allowed to join a few others on the platforms but even then under the suspicious gaze of a number of staff who were obviously not happy about our presence! As soon as the charter departed we were ushered back to the concourse. All this overshadowed the event becoming somewhat tiresome and of course I then played it somewhat by stopping to photograph other trains on the walk back along the platform despite being told several times that I was not permitted to do so which is, of course, completely untrue!
