Another morning walk but the weather was distinctly better than when I did the same thing last week! This time in my forty-five minute walk I spotted and photographed five freights passing Roade.

66418, 04.10 Crewe Basford Hall-Felixstowe North (4L89, 1E), site of Roade station
With the driver nonchalantly sitting with his arms folded at the controls he brings 66418 'Patriot - In Memory of Fallen Railway Employees' into the morning sunshine at Roade emerging from the depths of the cutting. The Class 66 is leading Freightliner's 4L89 04.10 Crewe Basford Hall to Felixstowe service.

66708, 03.10 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M18, 5E), site of Roade station
66708 'Jayne' leads the 4M18 03.10 Felixstowe North to Trafford Park service past the site of Roade's former station on this bright August morning despite the cloud already beginning to fill the sky. The land to the left of this photograph was once filled with numerous sidings most of which served the large adjacent Pianoforte factory site that, despite its name, between 1939 and 1945 produced large amounts of munitions for the war effort reverting back to the production of car parts until closure came in 2008. The factory site is now covered by a large new housing estate.

90045 & 90042, 02.50 Felixstowe North-Garston (4M45, 50E), site of Roade station
I have tried numerous times, to no avail, to capture the double-headed 4M45 02.50 Felixstowe to Garston Freightliner and aiming to get both locomotives in between electrification masts rather than the second one being split by an upright. Locating a spot where the masts are slightly further apart than standard appears to be the only way that I will succeed! Passing the site of Roade station, 90045 and 90042 lead the 02.50 Felixstowe North to Garston Freightliner service.

66568, 03.39 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, 10E), Roade cutting
With two freights (4L52 and 4M86) approaching fast I had it in my head that they would cross completely passing me here in Roade cutting. Luckily, they were seconds apart meaning that I could grab two photographs. Firstly, 66568 heads south leading the 03.39 Garston to London Gateway making very sedentary progress.

66519, 03.00 Felixstowe North-East Midlands Gateway (4M86, 23E), Roade cutting
Close examination of this photograph reveals that the tail end of the 4L52 Freightliner service is just going around the curve and out of Roade cutting. 66519 leads the 4M86 03.00 Felixstowe North to East Midlands Gateway that had I been standing on Hyde Road bridge in the distance I would not have been able to capture due to them crossing each other.
