On a glorious Saturday, the first of a week of hot summer weather, my walk to the village garage for provisions happened to coincide with the passage of an unusual Saturday afternoon infrastructure working.

350242, LN 15.33 Crewe-London Euston (1U36, 3E), site of Roade station 350242 leads another unit past the site of Roade station working the 15.33 Crewe to Euston service. Until its closure in September 1964 the station occupied the shole of the area seen in this photograph with four platforms, station buildings and a footbridge spanning the tracks. The entrance to the station was from the access road near to the station master's house seen centre top. 66770, 14.53 Bescot Yard-Wembley Yard (6G52, RT), site of Roade station It is not usual for infrastructure trains to run on Saturdays but in this case, the 14.53 Bescot to Wembley Yard was sent south as 6G52 in preparation for overnight engineering works in north London. 66751, 14.53 Bescot Yard-Wembley Yard (6G52, RT), site of Roade station On a glorious summer afternoon, 66751 'Inspiration Delivered Hitachi Rail Europe' is dead in tow on the 6G52 14.53 Bescot Yard to Wembley infrastructure working. The train is seen passing the site of Roade station from a footbridge that spans the lines. 390040, VT 16.41 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (6G34, 1L), site of Roade station A more unusual photograph of 390040 working the 6G34 16.41 Euston to Birmingham New Street Avanti service as it passes Roade. It is taken with the camera's lens at its widest angle displaying a lot more of the scene that was once full of sidings and with the large Pianoforte factory occupying the site that is now a large housing estate. With the lens at this extreme setting, some work was needed in Photoshop to straighten things up with all sorts of converging horizontal and vertical planes but it makes for a change from a more conventional setting.
