An interesting half an hour in Roade cutting that culminated with the passage of 34067 'Tangmere' passing light engine heading south. For once, the sun shone and it was a pleasantly warm afternoon.

Class 221, VT 12.00 Glasgow Central-London Euston (9M55) & 66087, 15.36 Hams Hall-Dollands Moor, Roade cutting
An unidentified Class 221 Voyager is about to pass the 15.36 Hams Hall to Dollands Moor Freightliner. The Voyager is approaching the end of its journey as the 12.00 Glasgow to Euston whilst 66087 is leading the Freightliner. Unfortunately, despite the generally sunny afternoon, this is the only photograph taken in the shade of a cloud?

92031, down LE to DIRFT for 18.39 DIRFT-Coatbridge (4M97), Roade cutting
Class 92s have become increasingly rare on the southern section of the WCML in recent years. They still do put in appearances with this one running light engine from Wembley Yard to Daventry's rail freight terminal. Later in the evening, it would work the 4M97 DIRFT to Coatbridge service. I think that the DB livery as applied to this example looks very smart and suits the locomotive.

57304, up LE (ex Rugby), Roade cutting
DRS' 57304 'Pride of Cheshire' runs light engine through Roade cutting heading south. The locomotive was running from Rugby to Euston as part of the regular shift around of the Thunderbirds. It's a testament to the original Brush design that this 1965 built locomotive is still in operation on the network ready to rescue Virgin Trains that are in trouble at the drop of a hat!

325001, 16.22 Willesden-Sheildmuir (1S96), Roade cutting
The daily 1S96 Royal Mail train passes through Roade cutting lead by pioneer unit 325001. Unfortunately, I failed to include the trailing units in this photograph that will be two of the other fourteen that make up the entire set. Despite having the front end and interior cab of the highly successful ABB Networker family the body of these units are virtually identical to the Class 319 but for the different door design to enable the loading and unloading of the Royal Mail trolleys, known as 'Yorks'.

34067, 07.20 Carnforth-Southall (5Z42), Roade cutting
Former Southern Railway's 34067 'Tangmere' passes light engine through Roade cutting running as 5Z42. The 4-6-2 Pacific Class was one of forty introduced between 1945 and 1951 that worked throughout their life on the Southern Region. The 07.20 Carnforth to Southall move was in order for Tangmere to be one of the locomotives to haul the railway Touring Company The Dorset Coast Express the following day. However, the charter was canceled at short notice due to fire brigade union industrial action.
