Following the morning's failed record attempt between Euston and Glasgow Central, the Pendolino was caught in the evening returning, carrying the various invited dignitaries and guests back to the capital. Despite the awful lighting, I ventured out after dinner to capture its passing as I was unable to photograph the morning run due to domestic duties.

350402, 350127 and 350258 work the 20.06 Northampton to London Euston service past Ashton Road bridge just south of the village of Roade on a dismal and damp evening.

390044, VT 16.00 Glasgow Central-London Euston (1Z25, 11E), Ashton Road bridge
Having failed by a paltry twenty-one seconds to break the London to Glasgow time record, 390044 'Royal Scot' heads back south as the 16.00 Glasgow to Euston 1Z25. The attempt failed due to two 'unforeseen' TSRs, one at Carstairs and another just a few miles from its destination. Quite how Network Rail who had 'cleared the lines' in order to attempt the record had not spotted this issue is beyond me; I'm sure in the fullness of time this will come out. The Pendolino was re-named following a short ceremony at Euston prior to departure and carries a rampant lion from the Royal Banner of Scotland that should really be in red rather than white.

88006, 15.49 Garston-Dagenham (6L48, 4E), Ashton Road bridge
As an indication as to how grim the lighting is the headlight of 88006 'Juno' is shining out brightly leading the almost empty 6L48 15.49 Garston to Dagenham cartics. I say almost empty as it is carrying just two lone Ford models - a 70 plate Focus and a 69 plate Ranger. Quite why these two cars were being conveyed on this train will remain a mystery unless anybody can enlighten me? The train is seen just south of Roade about to pass under Ashton Road bridge.

As the long tail of the 6L48 15.49 Gaston to Dagenham passes Ashton Road bridge near Roade the 19.30 Birmingham to Euston Avanti service overtakes it worked by 390114 'City of Manchester'.
