Having failed by a paltry twenty-one seconds to break the London to Glasgow time record, 390044 'Royal Scot' heads back south as the 16.00 Glasgow to Euston 1Z25. The attempt failed due to two 'unforeseen' TSRs, one at Carstairs and another just a few miles from its destination. Quite how Network Rail who had 'cleared the lines' in order to attempt the record had not spotted this issue is beyond me; I'm sure in the fullness of time this will come out. The Pendolino was re-named following a short ceremony at Euston prior to departure and carries a rampant lion from the Royal Banner of Scotland that should really be in red rather than white.
