The attempt failed due to two 'unforeseen' TSRs, one at Carstairs and another just a few miles from its destination. Quite how Network Rail who had 'cleared the lines' in order to attempt the record had not spotted this issue is beyond me; I'm sure in the fullness of time this will come out. The Pendolino was re-named following a short ceremony at Euston prior to departure and carries a rampant lion from the Royal Banner of Scotland that should really be in red rather than white.
