Stoneblower, 10.05 Woking Up Reception-Blackburn Bolton Road (2L), site of Roade station
A triumph of function over design is how I would describe the YZA stoneblowers! They undertake a function very similar to tampers by blowing compressed air and ballast (if required) under the track to lift and straighten it. This particular machine, whose number I failed to record, was making the long journey from Woking to Blackburn

DR73923, 11.54 Coventry Yard-Watford London Concrete (45L), Ashton Road bridge
Colas 08-4x4/4S-RT switch and crossing tamper DR73923 runs past Roade about to pass under Ashton Road bridge making the relatively short journey from Coventry to Watford. This particular working was now running nearly an hour late having been held at Rugby even disappearing off the Open Train Times map leading me to think it had been capped or gone off route somewhere? Suddenly, it was reactivated and reappeared again so I am not too sure what went on there?

66432, 13.09 DIRFT-Tilbury (4L48, RT), Ashton Road bridge
The Sunday only 4L48 'Tesco Express' is seen passing to the south of Roade about to go under Ashton Road bridge. The 13.09 Daventry to Tilbury train is being led by DRS regular performer 66432. This is a photograph taken completely 'blind' by raising the camera up and over the bridge parapet with a 'hope for the best' approach; in this particular case it almost worked but for the rear of the locomotive not quite clearing the stanchion.

50007 & 66737, 13.00 Stewart's Lane-Kidderminster SVR (0Z63, 6E), between Roade & Ashton
Following VSOE charter duties yesterday the duo of GBRf locomotives head back to their respective bases. 50007 'Hercules' masquerading as 50014 'Warspite' (on this side at least) leads 66737 'Lesia' on the approach to Roade in Northamptonshire. The locomotives were heading back to the Severn Valley Railway as the 0Z63 that had left Stewert's Lane at 13.00. On arrival at Kidderminster (SVR) 66737 would detach and then head on its own to Doncaster's Down Decoy yard. For once, I was blessed with the sun not being out as if it had been this photograph would have been virtually impossible due to me facing south west, the gamble paid off!
