30. GBRf VSOE charter-05.06.21

THE ARCHIVE FILES > Archive-2021 > 30. GBRf VSOE charter-05.06.21
An unadvertised private charter composed of VSOE Pullman stock had been organised by GBRf. It ran from Victoria to the Severn Valley Railway via the MML and then across to Birmingham. The haulage was arranged to be 66739 paired with 50049 (outward d.i.t.) and 50007 (return leading). I had intended to see both workings but on leaving Kidderminster in the late afternoon a problem with the stock meant an hour's delay. The charter then ran off route eventually joining the MML too late for me to justify an evening fifty-mile round trip!

222002, EM 07.46 Nottingham-London St. Pancras (1B19, 3L), Sharnbrook TL001598
In the lovely morning sunshine, 222002 takes the curve just north of Sharnbrook Junction working the 07.46 Nottingham to St. Pancras. This is the first time that I have visited this particular location since the wiring was installed. Whilst photographs are still possible, with the use of a ladder now a necessity, the view is not nearly so open as in the past, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/24224333204/x222102-1b13-sharnbrook-junction

The new face of the MML, if transient, is seen crossing Sharnbrook Junction in the early morning sunshine. 360117 and 360121 work the 08.15 St. Pancras to Corby train on the down fast line. As can be seen, East Midlands Railway has branded these 'local' services as 'EMR Connect', a simple and clever bit of marketing!

222005, EM 07.31 Sheffield-London St. Pancras (1C20, 2L), Sharnbrook TL001598
Formally named 'City of Nottingham' 222005 sweeps down Sharnbrook bank approaching the junction of the same name forming the 1C20 07.31 Sheffield to St. Pancras train. Whilst electrification is the inevitable next phase of railway evolution as a photographer I am not a fan. As can be seen here a previously wide-open view of the line has been severely compromised.

66737, 06.49 London Victoria-Kidderminster SVR (1Z60, 2L), Sharnbrook TL001598
Every minute that this charter was delayed, and by this stage this was mounting up, meant that the photograph was becoming even more backlit! 66737 'Lesia' leads the outward leg of a VSOE private charter organised by GBRf who supplied their own motive power. The charter left Victoria at 06.49 running as 1Z6o picking up as far as Kettering heading for the Severn Valley Railway. Out of sight on the rear here at Shernbrook Junction was 50049 'Defiance'. I have photographed many trains at this location but this is the first one since the installation of the electrification, by way of comparison, this is what it used to look like..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/24224339404/x222001-1d09-sharnbrook-junction

Clinging on for dear life 50049 'Defiance' is seen swinging about on the rear of the outward leg of a 'private' GBRf charter from London Victoria to the Severn Valley Railway running as 1Z60. It is seen passing Sharnbrook in Bedfordshire with 66737 'Lesia' leading at the front. I hope that the invited travellers enjoyed their trip on board the VSOE Pullman stock.

360108 & 360111, EM 08.40 Corby-London St. Pancras (1H21, 5L), Sharnbrook TL001598
Despite some work to 'refresh' the former Greater Anglia Desiros, nobody thought it appropriate to repaint the front ends; not a great message being sent to the travellers on the MML especially post COVID! 360108 and 360111 work the 1H21 08.40 Corby to St. Pancras train on the approach to Sharbrook Junction.
