A short stop-off on the MML just north of kettering whilst driving to pick my son and his friend up from a local badminton tournament.

43081, EM 13.15 London St. Pancras-Nottingham (1D37), Glendon Road bridge SP855815
HST power car 43081 leads the 13.5 St. Pancras to Nottingham service towards Glendon Junction a short distance north of Kettering that can be seen in the background. The course of the former fourth track can be seen in the ballast that is soon to be reinstated as part of the electrification programme changing this view forever.

222019, EM 13.01 London St. Pancras-Corby (1N01), Glendon Road bridge SP855815
222019 works the 13.01 St. Pancras to Corby 1N01 service away from Kettering on the final leg of its journey. The single line to and from Corby is now busy with regular passenger services intertwined with freight creating some problems for the signallers. It will be doubled in the next few years and electrified. Notice the floodlights on the skyline on the former Kettering Town's Rockingham Road ground that they vacated three years ago following them entering administration.

222016, EM 12.49 Sheffield-London St. Pancras (1C47), Glendon Road bridge SP855815
222016 is about to pass under Glendon Road bridge with the junction of the same name visible in the background curving off to the right towards Corby. The EMR Meridian is working the 12.49 Sheffield to St. Pancras service through a welcome patch of sunshine after what had been a dull June day.

222014, EM 13.26 London St. Pancras-Sheffield (1F38), Glendon Road bridge SP855815
222014 accelerates away from Kettering, seen in the background, working the 13.26 St. Pancras to Sheffield service. At some time in the not too distant future, this line will be quadrupled again and when this happens I believe that it will be the longest section of continuous four-track line in the country unless anybody can advise me differently!

43060 heads south in the afternoon sunshine leading the 13.32 Nottingham to St. Pancras EMT service. In the background, Meridian 222019 has just rejoined the course of the MML curving in from the right at Glendon Junction working the 1P49 14.16 Corby to St. Pancras 'stopper'.

222019, EM 14.16 Corby-London St. Pancras (1P49), Glendon Road bridge SP855815
222019 was seen a little earlier on the same track but heading in the other direction. Now it is seen returning working the 14.16 Corby to St. Pancras service from the lofty heights of Glendon Road bridge just north of Kettering.

Corby station
Living relatively locally it is a surprise that this is actually my first visit to Corby's 'new' station. This single-track affair opened in 2008 and now enjoys a regular return service to St. Pancras with the trains operating an all station stopping pattern. With the electrification of the MML approved it is likely that a second platform will be constructed to the left of this photograph as the line is going to be re-doubled. The railways of the East Midlands certainly appear to on the march!
