An unusual early evening working on the WCML just near to my home was flagged up so I popped out after dinner. 60009 'Union of South Africa' was being piloted with stock from Southall to Kidderminster. Whilst this is not unusual in itself, the timing was being sandwiched in on a Friday evening during the peak period, quite an achievement for the train planners!

A number of London Midland's peak commuter trains are composed of three sets of class 350 Desiros to cater for the thousands of commuters who travel on the route north of London. The 1Y63 17.13 Euston to Birmingham is one of these trains that on this particular Friday evening is worked by 350242, 350245 and 350264 and is seen passing Victoria bridge just south of Roade.

I have not judged this photograph quite correctly both in terms of the chosen spot and the actual positioning of the train! I had intended that both the piloting Class 47 and 60009 'Union of South Africa' should fit between the electrification masts but I have managed to clip the steam locomotive slightly! The empty coaching stock, running as 5Z64, left WCR's Southall base at 14.30 and was heading to the SVR at Kidderminster. The train is seen passing Victoria bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire.

Class 221, VT 18.03 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1G37), Victoria bridge
A Class 221 speeds northwards passing Victoria bridge near Roade working the 18.03 Euston to Birmingham New Street Virgin service. Yet another example of a diesel working a relatively short distance service entirely under fully energised wires.....can somebody explain how this is correct, please?

Another of London Midland's three-set evening commuter services that left half an hour after the previous one. The 17.46 Euston to Birmingham New Street 1Y67 is passing Victoria bridge between Northampton and Milton Keynes by 350238, 350242 and 350250.
