What a different day to yesterday; today the sky is clear, the sun is out and it feels positively spring-like! I decided to visit a local bridge that I rarely use to capture the passage of the Sunday 4L98 Tesco Express. The reason that I do not use this spot very often is that it's on a busy road with no pavement across the bridge and that a ladder is needed. Therefore, I have some 'acquired' yellow cones that I use around where I am standing and I have to keep my wits about me!

390127 working the 11.47 Wolverhampton to Euston sweeps around off the Weedon route with the Northampton route joining from the right. There is no junction at this point with the two routes becoming a quadruple route all the way to the capital. Notice the recent and extensive work that has recently been completed to stabilise the huge cutting wall that towers above the line. It is the associated clearance of this that has enabled photographs from this lofty position to be taken but I wonder for how long until re-growth blocks the view once again?

Class 221, VT 11.28 Chester-London Euston (1A18), Blisworth Road bridge
A Virgin West Coast Voyager approaches Roade cutting from the north working the 11.28 Chester to Euston service. The line curving away to the right is the Northampton loop. In days past when a more sensible and measured approach was taken spotters used to be able to access the apex of the two lines and collect numbers all day long. All of the area seen in this view is no completely off-limits.

66427, 12.03 DIRFT-Purfleet (4L98), Blisworth Road bridge
In decidedly spring-like weather DRS' 66427 hauls the 12.03 Daventry to Purfleet 4L98 up the 1:100 long drag from Northampton to Roade cutting where things level out. Apart from the front few flats being unladen the rest of the train appears well loaded. The line in the foreground is the Weedon route that avoids trains going through Northampton. The town of Northampton can be seen in the background with the town's Express lift tower visible on the skyline centre left.
