90049, 03.09 Felixstowe North-Ditton (4M45), Ashton Road bridge
90049 passes between Roade and Ashton on the southern WCML leading the 4M4 03.09 Felixstowe to Ditton Freightliner service. On this grey and dark March morning, I was pushing the capabilities of the camera somewhat meaning that I needed to undertake a fair bit of digital tinkering.

The 07.20 Euston to Manchester Piccadilly Virgin Trains service passes between Roade and Ashton worked by 390112. After last Saturday's bright and frosty morning, exactly a week later today the weather is somewhat different!

Class 390, VT 07.23 London Euston-Birmingham New Street, Ashton Road bridge
The 07.23 Euston to Birmingham New Street Pendolino sweeps past Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade in Northamptonshire. Note the black and white sign attached to the electrification mast. This indicates to trackworkers of limited clearance caused, in this particular case, a steep embankment dropping away to the right of the down fast line.

86259, outward leg of The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express, 07.09 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Ashton Road bridge
The electric blue of 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' brightens up a drab scene in South Northamptonshire. The vintage AC electric is hauling yet another Saturday Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express (the sixth week in a row) running, as usual, as 1Z86 and leaving Euston at 07.09. The charter was hauled to Carnforth by the electric where 46115 'Scots Guardsman' would take over.
