A bright, cold and frosty morning found me at Blisworth on the Weedon loop of the WCML just north of Roade. The purpose of the run out from home in my Toyota Rav4 was to capture the passage of test another Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express charter.

Class 390, VT 06.10 Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A05), Blisworth
An unidentified Virgin Pendolino heads south past Blisworth located between Roade and Weedon on the southern WCML. It is working the 1A05 06.10 Manchester to Euston service, the first up working from Piccadilly of the day. I chose a fairly wide-angle view to show the frosted tillering wheat in the field dropping down towards the railway and the dreaded palisade fencing.

Class 390, VT 07.23 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1G05), Blisworth
The 07.23 Euston to Birmingham New Street Pendolino services passes through the cold Northamptonshire countryside. This location is just outside the village of Blisworth in a field adjacent to the village's football club pitches. Shrouded by the mist in the background is the county town of Northampton with the National (formally the Express) lift tower just visible catching the rising sun on the extreme right.

86259, outward leg of The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express, 07.09 London Euston-Carlisle (1Z86), Blisworth
I retrospect I did not really quite get the positioning of 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' quite right with a tree growing out of its roof! Last-minute I decided to ramp the shutter speed up instead of trying a pan shot as I decided that I was too far away for that. Wrong decision, I should have tracked the locomotive in the viewfinder, cropped it down and said tree would have been far less obtrusive! The Class 86 is leading the outward leg of The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express past Blisworth just north of Roade cutting. It was removed at Carnforth for Black 5 46115 'Scots Guardsman' taking over for the run over Shap to Carlisle and then to return south via the Settle and Carlisle route to Farrington Junction.

Class 390, VT 07.35 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H62), Blisworth
By turning the camera slightly further to the east and the rising sun the lighting of the photograph at Blisworth in the Weedon loop near to Northamptonchanges completely. An unidentified Class 390 heads north with the 1H62 07.35 Euston to Manchester service.

390045, VT 07.43 London Euston-Glasgow Central (1S47), Blisworth
By utilising a 1/80th second shutter speed I panned the camera following the front of the Pendolino in the viewfinder. The pan view of 390045 forming Virgin's 07.43 Euston to Glasgow Central results in a blurred background with the subject relatively sharp. I should have adopted this approach when taking the photograph of 86259 'Les Ross/ Peter Pan' a little earlier here at Blisworth just north of Roade cutting.
