A Saturday ride on my bike to Roade cutting as the sun was out after what seemed like days of rain and there were two interesting light engine moves scheduled.

57302, up LE ex Rugby, Roade cutting Former Virgin Thunderbird 57302 now named 'Chad Varah' and operated by DRS passes through Roade cutting having left Rugby on an unidentified move to Wembley. The initial batch of twelve Class 57s was constructed in 2002/03 with another four a short while later in order to tow the Pendolinos along the North Wales coast to and from Crewe. Dubbed as Thunderbirds they are still stabled up and down the WCML at strategic locations but I can't quite help thinking that the DRS livery is not quite as dramatic as the initial Virgin livery! 350245, LM unidentified down working & 57302, up LE ex Rugby, Roade cutting As 57302 'Chad Varah' heads south through Roade cutting, London Midland's 350245 heads north with an unidentified service. After what had seemed like days of rain with associated flooding around the country it was good to see a little brightness! Class 390, VT 12.33 Birmingham New Street-London Euston, Roade cutting The 12.33 Birmingham New Street to London Euston Pendolino passes through Roade cutting. Whilst I cannot identify this set it is clear that it one of the extended sets or one of the four later built eleven-car sets introduced between 2011 and 2013. 350261, LM 11.02 Crewe-London Euston, Roade cutting 350261 takes the fast line through Rode cutting forming the 11.02 Crewe to Euston service. Whilst the sun is not fully out at least there is some good light deep down in the cutting something that is at a premium during the winter months. 37419, Derby-Old Oak Common LE (0F70), Roade cutting The second DRS light engine movement within twenty minutes sees 37419 'Carl Haviland 1954-2012' heading south through Roade cutting. Whilst the previous movement was going from Rugby to Wembley the Class 37 was operating as the 0F70 from Derby to Old Oak Common. I am not absolutely sure as to why this veteran locomotive, that will celebrate its half-century next year, was heading to west London.
