After arriving at Kelling Heath I took a late afternoon walk down to Weybourne station. Armed with just my iPhone I took a few photographs in the superb late afternoon light. Unfortunately, I was to discover that the station was closed not just on this afternoon but for the whole week as part of the North Norfolk Railway's COVID secure operations.

D6732, stabled, Weybourne yard
Long term resident of the North Norfolk Railway's diesel fleet is Type 3 D6732 that first arrived on the railway in September 1994. It sees regular use throughout the year but is not actually owned by the railway but is privately owned. It has been a reliable performer apart from during the winter of 2018/2019 when it was taken to Barrow Hill for attention to its main generator. In its mainline career it carried two other numbers, 37032 and 37353. In June 1989 it reverted back to 37032 again. It is seen here standing catching some very late afternoon light in Weybourne's silent yard.

Silhouetted against a dramatic early evening sky at Weybourne is its up starter pulled off as operations have finished for the day and the signalman has switched everything out. In the adjacent yard is one of the railway's resident Class 101 DMUs. This is one of my favourite stations and I was very disappointed to find it shut due to COVID management during our stay in Norfolk.

GN somersault starter signal, Weybourne
The North Norfolk Railway has worked hard to create a proper themed working museum keeping things as genuine as possible. The results are that it has a superb 'period-feel' with things such as GN (Great Northern) signalling around Weybourne. This somersault signal is the up starter at Weybourne and would have been found throughout Norfolk in pre-grouping years and for a long time afterwards. It just catches the last vestiges of afternoon light against a 'big' Norfolk sky stretching out over the North Sea.
