As I am self-employed there are occasions when the passing of a particular train trumps my need to earn a crust! It does not happen very often but I will pop out of work to see a particular working. On this day, the empty coaching stock from a four-day private charter was returning from Euston to Crewe. Along with a number of other enthusiasts (appropriately socially distanced naturally!), I decided to see it at Northampton's Wilson's Crossing to the north of the town.

66569, 12.16 Lawley Street-London Gateway (4L62, 1E), Wilson's Crossing
Whilst Wilson's Crossing remains a reasonable proposition for photographing down trains ups are more difficult to capture due to the awkward placing of an electrification post! 66569 leads the 12.16 Lawley Street to London Gateway 4L62 Freightliner on the northern approach to Northampton.

66543, 09.12 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M63, 45L), Wilson's Crossing
With the spire of Kingsthorpe's St. John the Baptist's church on the skyline 66543 leads the 4M63 09.12 Felixstowe to Trafford Park Freightliner past Wilson's Crossing. This spot has always been reasonably open but the growth of the large bush adjacent to the signal post is beginning to compromise it.

The next time that I was to photograph this locomotive was at the same spot but looking north and on a very cold day and still in the grip of COVID pandemic, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/30002766605/x6-66543-05-00-trafford-park-felixstowe

DR 73806, 13.34 Rugby DED-Watford Concrete (77L), Wilson's Crossing
Plasser & Theurer plain line tamper DR 73806 'Karine' passes Wilson's Crossing to the north of Northampton as the 13.34 Rugby to Watford Concrete move. This is a regular positioning move for a Tamper. I like the bright orange and contrasting yellow of the Colas machines; they certainly brighten up a dull September afternoon!

66428, 09.55 Tilbury-DIRFT (4M07, 1L), Wilson's Crossing
Fast becoming one of my most recently photographed Class 66s 66428 'Carlisle Eden Mind' heads north away from Northampton with the 09.55 Tilbury to Daventry Tesco Express working. I saw the same 66 working north the previous aftenoon, see....https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29616581404/x66428-11-05-tilbury-dirft-42l-site so DRS are obviously getting the best value from their locomotives by working them pretty intensively. Notice the cheery wave from the driver directed towards the small gathering of enthusiasts at this popular spot.

90001 & 40145, 13.11 London Euston-Crewe HS (5Z46, 20E), Wilson's Crossing
What a smashing sight! Evoking memories of the late 1980s and early 1990s 90001 'Royal Scot' leads a train past Wilson's Crossing near Northampton in its authentic InterCity swallow livery. Now operated by Locomotives Services Limited (LSL) from their Crewe facility the 90 was leading the returning stock from a four-day railtour around Scotland. Leaving Euston at 13.11 and running as 5Z56 it arrived back at Crewe well ahead of schedule. At the rear of the train is 40145 that was also used on the railtour and led the train up the WCML on the previous Friday taking the stock to London. Unfortunately, I was not able to witness that particular event as I was in Nottingham on that day!
