83. 4H04 & 5Q66-25.07.20

I had to run for this one! Due to closure of the MML again the 4H04 Bletchley to Peak Forest empty stone train was diverted up the WCML. I noticed that it was underway as it was approaching Milton Keynes so I grabbed the camera and ran across two fields from home (the Prime Minister would be proud of my bout of exercise) managing to grab a broadside photograph of the train as it passed. I also waited the short time for the passage of another of West Midlands Train Class 172 returning from tyre turning at Ilford.

66731, 10.55 Bletchley Cemex-Peak Forest (4H04, 5E), between Roade & Ashton
I have been attempting to get a photograph of celebrity 66731 'Capt. Tom Moore A True British Inspiration' since its naming deep in the depths of the pandemic lockdown on 30.04.20. This broadside photograph shows the various other adornments applied to the side of what is an otherwise mundane Class 66 that makes it stand out from the crowd. 66731 is hauling the 10.55 Bletchley to Peak Forest empty stone train diverted away from its usual route down the MML seen between Ashton and Roade on the WCML.

2. 66596, 08.14 Crewe Basford Hall-Felixstowe North (4L93, 2L) & Class 221, 10.40 London Euston-Preston (9S60, 2E), between Roade & Ashton
66596 leads the 4L93 08.14 Crewe Basford Hall to Felixstowe Freightliner service south on the WCML between Roade and Ashton. It is passing a northbound Avanti West Coast Voyager working the 10.40 Euston to Preston service. Class 172, 09.16 Ilford EMUD-Tyseley (5Q66, 4E), between Roade & Ashton
An unidentified West Midlands Trains Class 172 makes its way down the WCML back home to its base at Tyseley. The unit left Ilford depot running as 5Q66 after having wheel turning on the only lathe capable of undertaking this work; what utter madness is that! I chose this spot as there was full cloud but just as the train approached the sun managed to find some thinness in the cloud thus creating tricky backlighting that needed considerable Photoshop treatment - how ironic!
