66126, 02.32 Peak Forest-Bletchley (6B10), Ashton Road bridge
The 02.32 Peak Forest to Bletchley stone train passes between Roade and Ashton some fourteen miles from its destination. The 6B10 freight utilises former coal wagons and on this day is hauled by 66126. I had to do with a 'going away' photograph as it is impossible to take a conventional image due to uncontrolled embankment growth.

Class 90, 04.57 Trafford Park-Felixstowe North (4L97), Ashton Road bridge
The 04.57 Trafford Park to Felixstowe 4L97 Freightliner heads south between Roade and Ashton on the WCML with an unidentified Class 90 leading. I like the dramatic lighting in this photograph from the angry sky to the sun glinting off the side and roof of the Class 90.

61306 (& 47746), outward leg of The Cathedral's Express, 07.26 London Euston-Chester (1Z89), Ashton Road bridge
The low winter sun has really caught the exhaust of 61306 'Mayflower' as it approaches Roade on the down slow line leading the outward leg of The Cathedral's Express charter. The Steam Dreams operated excursion left Euston running as 1Z89 and was heading for Chester so its passengers could enjoy the city's Christmas market. 61306 was substituting for 70000 'Britannia' that was unavailable but being fresh from a comprehensive overhaul, personally I think that 'Mayflower' was the better of the two! Out of sight on the rear of the train was 47746 'Chris Fudge' This was one of those days when everything went to plan with the outward and return workings arriving bang on time.
