With the leisure sector still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic our local heritage railway, the Northampton and Lamport Railway, opened its gift shop and station to visitors. After parking the car on Brampton Lane we took a short walk along the Brampton Valley Way and had a picnic. Whilst no trains were running there was a team working at the railway's new station on its southern extension. We were also able to observe the Railway's latest acquisitions!

One of the Railway's latest acquisitions is 10412 a Mk.3a Trailer Standard Open Buffet (TSOB). It arrived at the railway on 15th April and is going to be used as a combined buffet, waiting room and ticket office when its extension south at Boughton opens. Whilst the coach is in good condition having just come out of service with Greater Anglia I am not sure that it quite fits into the heritage sector just yet?

Having not seen any use for some months now long-term resident 31289 'Phoenix' stands at Pitsford and Brampton station sandwiched between other stock. Numbered at first as D5821 and released into traffic in 1961 the Brush Type 2 was initially a northeastern based locomotive then moving to the Midlands where it spent the rest of its working career. It was withdrawn from service in March 1992. I am not absolutely convinced about the livery that the NLR have painted 31289 in.

More associated with leading trains from London's Liverpool Street, speeding through the Suffolk countryside or sitting on the blocks at Norwich station, former GA 82114 now has a new home at the NLR! The DVT is going to become part of an air-braked set that the heritage line is planning to operate. I am not sure that sitting in a Mk.III coach being hauled by a diesel on a heritage line is quite what visitors will flock to the NLR for but I suppose that I can see the thinking, see..... https://www.nlr.org.uk/mark-3b-driving-van-trailer-82114-preserved-at-the-northampton-lamport-railway/
