I took my walk to coincide with another ROG light engine move involving another of their Class 37s. This time, it was making its way from their Leicester base to Clacton. It was yet another stunning spring day with unbroken clear blue sky.

350126 & 350240, LN 11.15 Northampton-London Euston (2N32, 1E), Roade cutting
With the up and down fast lines still closed for maintenance during the emergency COVID-19 timetable, 350126 and 350240 work through Roade cutting with the 11.15 Northampton to Euston. I know that the fabled 'orange army' are often heralded as the heroes of the railway keeping it running but I have to say I think that their productivity is highly questionable. I stood on the bridge for about fifteen minutes and observed no work taking place except for one worker sporadically using his chainsaw. The rest spent the whole time as seen here doing nothing. It was the same story on Monday, see... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29004180804/x66519-08-20-birch-coppice-felixstowe but then I put this down to it being lunchtime. Are we really getting the best value from the very expensive contracts being awarded to teams such as this to clear vegetation from the sides of the cutting?

66561, 07.50 Felixstowe North-Lawley Street (4M94, 39E), Ashton Road bridge
Passing the currently inactive works site just south of Roade 66561 leads the 07.50 Felixstowe to Lawley Street 4M94 Freightliner service. The site has been closed since 08.04.20, coming up for a month now, due to a tragic fatality of a worker at the site. I do not know how long it takes the authorities to undertake their work and publish their interim findings but, until then, no work can take place.

86637 & 86605, 05.00 Trafford Park-Felixstowe North (4L75, 2E), Ashton Road bridge
86637 and 86605 lead the 05.00 Trafford Park to Felixstowe Freightliner past Ashton Road bridge just south of Roade on another stunning spring day. One of Roade's two water towers, currently being converted into a residence, is seen dominating the horizon to the right. This is not a great spot for capturing a double-headed train with the electrification equipment spoiling the view somewhat! However, Class 86s should be photographed on every occasion at the moment due to their probable and imminent demise!
