In a repeat of yesterday, I went out to see four freights that pass Roade within a few minutes of each other and they did not disappoint meaning I could get straight back home for breakfast! Later in the day, I went out across the fields from home again for another four freight workings.

66526, 03.39 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, 26E), between Roade & Ashton
A 'mild' pan photograph of 66526 'Driver Steve Dunn (George)' leading the early morning 4L52 03.39 Garston to London Gateway Freightliner on the up fast line. The image is taken between the villages of Ashton and Roade on a chilly morning with a very heavy dew that soaked through my footwear as I was not adequately prepared for it! As can be seen from the sky and the lighting, there is a little morning haze which has just taken the edge off the sunlight.

86639 & 86637, 21.25 Coatbridge-Felixstowe North (4L89, 1L), between Roade & Ashton
No panning of the camera or a ridiculously fast shutter speed needed here as the overnight 4L99 Coatbridge to Felixstowe Freightliner was at a walking pace approaching a red signal on the up fast line between the villages of Roade and Ashton. The adverse signal was because the 4L52 that was just in front of it had also slowed for the approach to Hanslope Junction to cross from the fast to the slow leaving 86639 and 86637 to continue fast beyond Milton Keynes and, in doing so, thus overtaking the preceding working. The sun is struggling to break through the slightly hazy sky at this stage that has just taken the edge off the lighting.

390157, VT 05.12 Lancaster-London Euston (1R07, 3L), between Roade & Ashton
At a walking pace being held behind two freights, one of which was moving from the up fast to the slow at Hanslope Junction, 390157 'Chad Varah' is seen working the 05.12 Lancaster to Euston. The Avanti West Coast operated Pendolino is seen between Roade and Ashton in south Northamptonshire.

66735, 03.10 Felixstowe North-Trafford Park (4M21, 30E), between Roade & Ashton
In a repeat of yesterday, 66735 'Peterborough United' leads the 4M21 03.10 Felixstowe to Trafford Park Freightliner, see...... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/28991215604/x66735-03-10-felixstowe-north-trafford This time the location is between Roade and Ashton that is less than a mile from where yesterday's image was recorded. The driver of 66735 acknowledged me standing in the field taking this picture with a friendly blow of the horn.

86632 & 86612, 02.50 Felixstowe North-Garston (4M45, 63E), between Roade & Ashton
The 02.50 Felixstowe to Garston Freightliner passes between Roade and Ashton led by 86632 and 86612. This image shows a generational change between WCML overhead line structures. The leading ac electric is passing under one of the original latticed stanchions installed during the 1960s electrification. Above the leading wagons is a gargantuan and chronically over-engineered structure spanning the entire four lines that supports just two up colour lights that dates from the early 2000s.

66531, 12.16 Lawley Street-London Gateway (4L46, 27E), Victoria bridge
Running on the up fast 66531 leads the 4L46 12.16 Lawley Street to London Gateway Freightliner past Victoria bridge just south of Roade. After a slightly hazy start to the day with the sun burning through some high cloud, it turned into a stunning day with brilliant sunshine.

DR73912, 10.57 Stowmarket-Rugby DED (4L), Victoria bridge
Instantly recognisable in its Colas livery rail tamper DR73912 'Lynx' passes Victoria bridge just south of Roade. It was making a fairly long journey as the 10.57 Stowmarket to Rugby in preparation for work to take place over the coming weekend on the WCML.

66031, 13.51 DIRFT-Purfleet (4L48, 20E), Victoria bridge
The wagons in the consist of the 4L48 13.51 Daventry to Purfleet Freightliner stretch into the distance at Victoria bridge between Roade and Ashton as it heads south. It is being led by a very tatty and faded 66031 that still wears its original EWS livery dating from 1998! However, despite its DB branding since October last year it is in fact operated by DRS so I suspect that it will soon enter the paintshop emerging in a version of its latest blue compass livery that seems to change with pretty frequent regularity.

66546, 09.25 Southampton MCT-Garston (4M28, 7E), Victoria bridge
Freightliner 66546 leads the long and heavily laden 09.25 Southampton to Garston 4M28 working on the southern section of the WCML between Roade and Ashton. I am always somewhat surprised that this particular working uses the busy WCML corridor that necessitates it crossing north London rather than going via the GW route through Didcot, Oxford and Banbury.

66760, 10.36 Felixstowe North-Hams Hall (4M23, 2L), Victoria bridge
GBRf's 66760 'David Gordon Harris' leads the 10.36 Felixstowe to Hams Hall that stretches off into the distance at Victoria bridge just south of Roade. Unusually for these strange COVID-19 times, this train arrived late! Having said this, it was only two minutes adrift but when many freights were arriving over an hour early this one stuck out somewhat!
