There had been considerable chatter on the forums as to what this scrap move was likely to be with various theories put forward. I went out for my daily walk after seeing that it had departed from Wembley. I had the usual problem as to where to go due to the positioning of the sun. I had a feeling that control would route the train on the down fast and I wasn't wrong so I was glad that I chose Victoria bridge. After a run of superb spring days, this day was a little more hazy.

390040, VT 09.56 Liverpool Lime Street-London Euston (1A20, 13L), Victoria bridge
390040 sweeps around the curve at Victoria bridge near to the village of Roade heading southwards with the 09.56 Liverpool Lime Street to Euston. Unusually for the present times, with the emergency timetable in place and with nearly all trains running to time or even early, this working was running late throughout its whole journey arriving thirteen minutes adrift.

A trio of London Northwestern Desiros led by 350246 pass Victoria bridge south of Roade with the 10.45 Euston to Northampton 2N23 service. Unlike the previous days, the light is spoilt on this day by some troublesome high cloud that took the edge off it slightly.

57301 & 315816, 10.56 Wembley yard-Masborough Booths (5Q25, 15E), Victoria bridge
This move had been noticed by a number of people on the forums and highlighted as one to watch out for. There was some uncertainty as to what it would be but it was presumed that it would be a former Greater Anglia or TfL unit(s). Operated by Rail Operations Group (ROG) the 10.56 Wembley to Booth's Yard in Rotherham move was removing a redundant former TfL unit for scrapping. 57301 'Goliath' tows 315816 past Victoria bridge just north of Hanslope Junction on the down fast line.

315816 & 57301, 10.56 Wembley yard-Masborough Booths (5Q25, 15E), Victoria bridge
Having spent its entire forty-years working life in the north London area carrying millions of commuters in and out of the capital, here 315816 is making its final journey to the scrap man at Booth's in Masborough (Rotherham). It is seen on the down fast line at Victoria bridge just south of Roade being towed as the 5Q25 by 57301 'Goliath'. I think that it's safe to say that the railways have had their money's worth out of these BREL (York) built units and one wonders if their replacements, the Bombardier Aventras, will do such a good job?
