And still the sun shines! Another lovely day with the country in a virtual shutdown and an emergency timetable running on the railways. I took an early morning walk from home to the garage in the village with the ground covered in frost.

92038, CS 20.26 Inverness, 21.12 Aberdeen, 19.00 Fort William-London Euston (1M16, 3E), Ashton Road bridge
Despite the massively reduced timetable now in operation as a response to an unprecedented drop in passenger numbers the Highland Sleeper service is still in operation. Led by 92038, the 1M16 21.12 Inverness/21.12 Aberdeen and 19.00 Fort William to Euston passes through Roade. It is such a shame that the rising sun has not fully illuminated the train in the shallow cutting. Another week and it would be properly lit.

390008, VT 06.43 London Euston-Wolverhampton (9G01, 1E), site of Roade station
The bright and shiny side of 390008 'Charles Rennie Mackintosh' catches the early morning sunshine as it passes the site of Roade station. The Pendolino is working the 9G01 06.43 Euston to Wolverhampton service. Notice the frost still on the grass in the shade of the fences and houses to the left.

66555, 03.39 Garston-London Gateway (4L52, 33E), site of Roade station
66555 bursts out of Roade cutting into the bright morning sunshine leading the 03.39 Garston to London Gateway Freightliner. The white building to the top right of the image is the former station master's house with the station located across the entire area in the foreground. Roade's station closed on 07.09.64. much to the chagrin of many residents of the village. There has been continuous discussion over recent years regarding its reopening and with the village growing in size at a dramatic rate and the terrible overcrowding at both Northampton and Milton Keynes stations the case becomes even more compelling......

86639 & 86613, 02.50 Felixstowe North-Garston (4M45, 25E), site of Roade station
Veteran AC electric power still operates on the WCML, but for how much longer? With the reliability and scarcity of spares, the working lives of Freightliner's 86639 and 86613 must surely be coming to an end? They are seen leading the 02.50 Felixstowe North to Garston 4M45 service past the site of Roade station.
