Undoubtedly the highlight of the year was an extended trip to Scotland with Andy. We took the sleeper to Fort William and hired cars from there on. Overnight stays were taken in Inverness and Dundee. We finished our tour in Edinburgh and took the train back home again.

After meeting Andy at Milton Keynes station we headed for Euston. We then took the sleeper through the night walking up passing through the magnificent Highlands. However, I did stir on arrival at Edinburgh where some shunting induced jolting ensued! We enjoyed our Mk. III experience especially dinner in the dining car. |

After arrival, we were met in the station car park at Fort William by a nice man with our hire car. This first one was smashing little VW Up! that we made use of throughout the day ending up at Inverness where we stayed at a nice B&B. As usual, in the evening we participated in our customary Indian meal. |

The second full day of our Scottish tour. After changing hire cars in Inverness we headed off along the north and east coasts via Aberdeen to Dundee. Andy copped many new stations and I got some lovely signal boxes. After a grey start to the day, the summer weather came good and it turned into a lovely afternoon. Just a bit of advice, if you want a curry in Dundee, plan ahead, never had we had so much difficulty finding an Indian meal in all of our travels! |

Our final day in Scotland. We made a really early start from Dundee's Travelodge on a stunning morning making for Perth and then Stirling. We then headed towards Edinburgh via the Central Belt to drop off the hire car near Waverley station. Andy and I then returned south courtesy of Virgin changing at Crewe finally arriving at Milton Keynes at just after 21.30. The day capped off a superb trip with Andy where we both scored, him with a shed load of stations and me with some signal boxes that are not destined to be around for much longer. |
