6. 'The Robert Burns'-25.01.20

In absolutely appalling light I took a morning walk through the village to capture my first charter of the year. To celebrate the birth of Robert Burns on 25th January 1759 UK Railtours named their first event of the year after him but, interestingly, rather than ending up in Scotland its destination was York!

323208, 07.46 Soho sidings-Wolverton centre sidings (3E), site of Roade station
The weather was really pushing the camera to its limits on this ridiculously dull Saturday morning with the ISO being forced to 8000! At this level, there are inevitable digital noise issues to deal with. Rather than use Photoshop's bundled noise filter, that is actually pretty ineffective, I use Neat Image (https://ni.neatvideo.com/home) to deal with problems. Now on borrowed time with new units set to replace it, 323208 passes the site of Roade station as the 07.46 Soho sidings to Wolverton centre siding. It was going to Wolverton for attention with a balancing working coming the other way later in the morning.

Class 390, VT 08.43 London Euston-Edinburgh Waverley (9S54, 19L), site of Roade station
It appears that Avanti West Coast have paused their re-branding of the former Virgin Pendolinos. After an initial burst following their takeover early in December, there are very few wearing the new paintwork and vinyls. Perhaps this has something to do with the announcement made by Avanti that the Class 390s are to undergo a massive refurbishment over the coming two years so it would make sense to leave costly cosmetic work until then. An unidentified member of the class passes the site of Roade station with the 9S54 08.43 Euston to Edinburgh Waverley.

67013, outward leg of The Robert Burns, UKR, 08.10 London Euston-York (1Z72, RT), site of Roade station
With just one former Greater Anglia liveried Mk.II coach spoiling the uniform rake of stock, the outward leg of 'The Robert Burns' charter passes the site of Roade station. The train left Euston at 08.10 and is being led by DB liveried 67013 that certainly brightens up a very dull morning. The charter reached York just after 14.00 leaving only two and a half hours later. This gave the passengers very little time to explore the city let alone to spend an adequate amount of time in the National Railway Museum!

67002, outward leg of The Robert Burns, UKR 08.10 London Euston-York (1Z72, RT), site of Roade station
67002 is seen dead in tow on the rear of 'The Robert Burns' railtour from Euston to York passing the site of Roade station. The UK Railtour's charter was one of the first of the year and the first one that I have been out to and photographed. On this incredibly dull January morning, 67002's livery, that appears to be something akin to BR or monastral blue, matches the Mk.II coaching stock of the train.
