The Three Peaks Challenge is a regular event on the railway's calendar. It is organised by the Railway Children charity in association with Porterbrook and involves organised rail travel between the UK's three highest mountains in order for them to be climbed by teams of fundraisers. The event usually involves some interesting stock and motive power charging up and down the country. This year I saw the outward and return ecs workings on Thursday 18th June and Sunday 21st June reseptively.

57305, up ecs 10.50 Crewe-London Euston (5Z51), Mill Lane bridge
I had been tracking the progress of the up Three Peaks Challenge ecs working on RTT whilst at work and escaped in their van when it was passing Long Buckby. This gave me enough time to get to Mill Road bridge in Northampton. 57307 'Northern Princess' leads the 5Z51 10.50 Crewe to Euston composed of a ragbag collection of stock some of which could have been seen at Crewe, see.... https://www.ontheupfast.com/v/photos/21936chg/28607649404/various-coaching-stock-crewe-south

57312, up ecs 10.50 Crewe-London Euston (5Z51), Mill Lane bridge
With the buildings of Northampton dominating the skyline, 57312 'Solway Princess' is seen at the rear of the 10.50 Crewe to Euston ecs working in preparation for the Three Peaks Challenge charity event. After taking this picture I hopped back in the work's van and returned for a busy afternoon in the workshop. However, on such a lovely June afternoon, I know where I'd rather be!

Class 390, VT 09.38 Glasgow Central-London Euston (1M05), Roade cutting
An unidentified class 390 weaves its way through Roade cutting with the 09.38 Glasgow to Euston 1M05 working. The stone bridge in the background is locally referred to as Accommodation or Thorpe Wood Bridge and is a remote spot crossed by a footpath. The green structure in the middle distance is an aqueduct carrying a stream across the cutting that has recently undergone extensive repairs and painting by Network Rail due to it being more like a colander than an aqueduct!

A class 390 heads north through Roade cutting with the 13.17 Euston to Birmingham New Street train. A class 221 Voyager is just passing under Hyde Road bridge heading south.

57305, 13.09 London Euston-Crewe down ecs (5Z58), Roade cutting
Having completed its Three Peak Challenge duties and dropped off the weary participants in London the stock is seen returning to Crewe. 57305 'Northern Princess' leads the 13.09 Euston to Crewe 5Z58 through Roade cutting. The very smart Northern Belle livery suits the class 57s very well. As 47164 in a previous life, this particular example was adorned with a huge union flag applied by Stratford depot to celebrate the Silver Jubilee in 1977.

57309, 13.09 London Euston-Crewe down ecs (5Z58), Roade cutting
In a change from the outward ecs working seen three days earlier, 57309 is seen on the rear of the returning Three Peaks Challenge charity event ecs move. The 13.09 Euston to Crewe 5Z58 working is seen passing through Roade cutting heading for the stock's base and much in need of a good clean I expect!
