A quick ride out on my bike to Roade cutting to photograph a rare and unusual empty coaching stock moved huled by two DRS class 37s. The weather was a perfect spring day with superb light.

Class 221, VT 13.43 London Euston-Glasgow Central (9S77), Roade cutting
A pair of Virgin Voyager class 221s pass through Roade cutting working the 13.43 Euston to Glasgow Central. By this time of year, the sun is just high enough to illuminate the depths of the cutting on the downside as seen here.

350371, LM 13.46 London Euston-Crewe (1U37), Roade cutting
350371 forms the 13.46 Euston to Crewe 'fast' service through Roade cutting. These London Midland operated services run fast as far as Stoke-on-Trent and then, effectively, as a stopper to Crewe via Kidsgrove and Alsager.

In glorious spring sunshine, London Midland's 350116 passes southwards through Roade cutting with the 13.24 Birmingham New Street to Euston.

Class 390, VT 10.40 Glasgow Central-London Euston (1M11), Roade cutting
An unidentified class 390 Pendolino passes through a very spring-like Roade cutting working the 10.40 Glasgow Central to Euston. By using a zoom lens the various structures in the cutting have been briught together foreshortening it considerably. Unfortunately, this has reduced the depth of field so the vast stone parpapet of the bridge I am standing on is out of focus.

350118, LM 13.49 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (1W15), Roade cutting
350118 heads north through Roade cutting working the 13.49 Euston to Birmingham New Street service. Again, by using a zoom lens the train deep in the cutting becomes more of the subject matter rather than the cutting itself.

37605 & 37059, 11.11 Eastleigh-Crewe ECS (5Z58), Roade cutting
Hauling a lovely set of Mk. I stock, DRS' 37605 and 37059 pass through Roade cutting with the 11.11 Eastleigh to Crewe empty coaching stock move. Running as 5Z58 the class 37s could be heard some distance away on the approach to Roade but just as they approached they were notched back so the recording that I made was not quite as good as I had hoped for; however, the photograph makes up for this!

66723, 10.46 Felixstowe North-Hams Hall (4M23), Roade cutting
66723 'Chinook' leads the 10.46 Felixstowe North to Lawley Street Freightliner service through Roade cutting. The poor initial framing of the train led me to undertake some dramatic cropping to produce this somewhat different view of the locomotive. At least its large nameplate can be seen, that was unveiled at a ceremony at Wellingborough on 02.09.07 by John Smith, Managing Director of First GBR and the then Station Cdr at RAF Odiham, Group Captain Andy Turner in support of the Royal Air Force. It carries the three squadron plaques of seven, eighteen and twenty-seven Squadron, the three frontline Squadrons at RAF Odiham in Hampshire.
