I went to the nearby Victoria bridge to observe the passage of The Flame Train. This was organised by Hexham and Newcastle Youth Ministry Team and took youngsters to a religious celebration at Wembley stadium.

The 09.14 Birmingham New Street to London Euston service passes Victoria bridge in the early morning spring sunshine. The train is formed by a pair of Desiros, 350118 and 350264

Virgin Trains' 390104 'Alstom Pendolino' sweeps around the curve under Victoria bridge located just south of Roade in Northamptonshire. This is the first up Anglo-Scottish express of the day having left Glasgow at 06.34 running as 1M07.

90035, outward leg of The Flame Train, Newcastle-Wembley-Central-(0001Z0090),-Victoria-bridge
This special train left Newcastle Central at an unearthly hour and is seen here passing Victoria bridge on the Southern WCML on the final part of its journey to Wembley Central. It is being led by 90035 that will have taken over the train somewhere en-route. The mixed bag of Mk. II stock is carrying a whole load of young Christians to the CYMFed Flame Congress at Wembley.

67005, outward leg of The Flame Train, Newcastle-Wembley Central (1Z90), Victoria bridge
I suspect that the 67005 'Queen's Messenger' would have led The Flame Train at some time during its journey from Newcastle. However, at this stage of its journey on the Southern WCML near Roade, it is on the rear of the special with 90035 up at the front. The train's destination was Wembley Central for a vast religious convention at the nearby stadium.

70019, 08.15 Crewe Basford Hall-Southampton (4O29) (Diverted becuase of`Harbury landslip), Victoria bridge
An unusual working on the southern WCML is the 4O29 08.15 Crewe Basford Hall to Southampton Freightliner, on this day hauled by 70019 doing its best to shatter the peace and quiet of the Northamptonshire countryside. The reason for the diversion was the closure of the Chiltern line that this service would normally have taken from Birmingham to Oxford. The closure was because of a major landslip in Harbury cutting that closed the mainline between Leamington and Banbury for some weeks.
