A truly awful winter morning had meant that I had decided not to go out and see The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express '2'. However, early postings on the internet revealed that rather than being hauled by, as usual, 86259 it was double-headed by two class 47s. So, I dragged myself out of home to Blisworth. Some highly unsatisfactory photographs resulted!

Class 390, VT 07.20 London Euston-Manchester Piccadilly (1H09), Blisworth
In the February gloom, a class 390 passes Blisworth forming the 07.20 Euston to Manchester. The field in the foreground is just turning green as the summer's oilseed rape emerges from the soil; it's hard to imagine that this scene will be one of bright yellow within about three months!

Class 390, VT 07.23 London Euston-Birmingham New Street (9G05), Blisworth
At just past eight o'clock on a February morning, light to photograph trains is extremely limited. In a dark and grey scene that perfectly illustrates the problems, a class 390 passes Blisworth with the 07.23 Euston to Birmingham New Street.

390010, VT 06.45 Wolverhampton-London Euston (1B04), Blisworth
With a few signs of brightness in an otherwise grey February sky, 390010 'Cumbrian Spirit' passes Blisworth working the 06.45 Wolverhampton to London Euston. Notice that the Pendolino has its nose cone cover in the retracted position, exposing its couplings and electrical systems. This is a fairly common occurrence and I do not understand, firstly why the practice persists and, secondly, how the operational systems of these complex trains are not affected by it?

390151 'Virgin Ambassador' leans into the camber on the curve at Blisworth on the Weedon loop line working the 07.05 Wolverhampton to London Euston. Illustrating how dark this February morning, the headlights of the Pendolino shine brightly through the February gloom!

47237 & 47744, outward leg of The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express 2 , 07.09 London-Euston-Carnforth (1Z66), Blisworth
A drab pair if WCR locomotives and stock, a dark winter's morning and poor positioning of the train have conspired to help create what is possibly one of the worst photographs that I have taken in recent years! So, for that reason, I am proudly presenting it! 47237 and 47744 lead the outward leg of The Cumbrian Mountain Express that had left London about an hour earlier. The 47s led the train to Carnforth where 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' took over for the trip over Shap to Carlisle. The dismal scene is taken at Blisworth on the Weedon loop of the southern WCML; let's not dwell any further on this image!

Class 390, VT 06.55. Manchester Piccadilly-London Euston (1A08), Blisworth
Recent clearance of the embankments here at Blisworth has enabled photographs from the adjacent field to be taken with just the palisade fencing spoiling the views. A class 390 Pendolino speeds southwards through the winter gloom forming the 06.55 manchester to Euston. My time here at Blisworth is done so it's time to head home for a hearty breakfast!
