Whilst on our annual skiing trip, this year to Chamonix in the French Alps at the foot of Mont Blanc, I still managed some railway action. As well as metre-gauge St Gervais to Vallorcine line operated by SNCF there is also the famous 5.1 km Montenvers Railway rack and pinion railway that takes tourists up to the middle/high mountain areas.

After a hard morning's skiing and a super lunch I made my way to Chamonix station to see what it was like. I found the SNCF station adjacent to the one for the mountain railway. |

Whilst out skiing with my son on a very snowy day we came across the Mont Blanc Tramway at Col de Voza. I did not have my proper camera with me so had to make do with some poor quality pictures taken on my Blackberry. |

With an hour or two spare before heading off for the airport, rather than fritter money away in expensive coffee and gifts shops, I headed for the station at Chamonix. |
