An early morning walk from home to Roade cutting for two railtours within minutes of each other! Firstly, the Cumbrian Mountain Express headed north with 86259 at the helm and then three class 37 were on the outward leg of The Cosham Completer.

86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' leads The Cumbrian Mountain Express through Roade Cutting. The excursion left London Euston at 07.10 heading for Carnforth running with its usual headcode of 1Z86. At Carnforth, steam took the train over Shap to Carlise.

I have said it before and I make no apologies for repeating it, but the drab West Coast Railway livery does nothing for their locomotives and stock. In poor lighting, such as here in the depths of Roade cutting, it looks even worse. 37706 and 37518 lead the outward leg of the oddly named Cosham Completer railtour. The train left Crewe at 05.30 ending up at Portsmouth Harbour. It was a real surprise that it made it to its destination, and close to its booked time, as there was disruption throughout southern England due to extremely strong winds that brought a lot of trees down closing some lines. The second loco. in the consist, 37518, I took a photograph of when it was numbered 37018 and working to for British Rail back in 1980, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29682578004/x36-37-018-tanker-train-east-holmes

37669, outward leg of The Cosham Completer, 05.30 Crewe-Portsmouth Harbour (1Z74), Roade Cutting
37669 on the rear of the Cosham Completer railtour organised by The Railway Touring Company. The railtour featured no less than three class 37s with 37706 and 37518 leading the train seen, here, passing through Roade Cutting. Quite how I have managed to avoid this particular veteran Type 3 I am not sure, but according to my database, this is my only photograph of this locomotive either in this guise or as 37129. However, I did get a photograph of 37518 when it was numbered 37018 back in 1980 at Lincoln, see..... https://www.ontheupfast.com/p/21936chg/29682578004/x36-37-018-tanker-train-east-holmes
