An early morning walk out through the village to see the final up sleeper composed of Mk. III stock....or is it? Fifteen minutes before the highland sleeper passed, the very late lowland one, again minus ts Glasgow portion, headed south. A very foggy morning that turned into a glorious summer day!

90043, CS 23.40 Glasgow Central & 23.40 Edinburgh Waverley-London Euston (1M11, 37L), A508 bridge
Once again running very late and in short formation, the up Lowland sleeper passes Roade's A508 road bridge. 90043 leads the train that has no Glasgow portion due to logistical problems relating to a shortage of the new Mk. IV CAF stock. It seems that all new stock and trains seem beset with problems when introduced but the issues that CS are experiencing with the Mk. IVs seem extreme. Most of the problem seem associated with the old favourite 'software glitches'. The most serious resulted in a computer generated emergency brake application of an up service that resulted in every bogie having to go for turning due to them all having severe flats. I suspect that the passengers asleep in their berths were a little nonplussed at being thrown about when this happened!

On a misty morning, 390126 heads south past Roade forming the 05.54 Wolverhampton to London Euston. The photograph is taken from Hyde Road bridge in the village, one of a number of places that the railway is crossed within a short distance.

90042, CS 19.50 Fort William, 21.43 Aberdeen, 20.45 Inverness-London Euston (1M16, 3L), Hyde Road bridge
The up Highland sleeper passes through Roade taken from Hyde Road bridge. Freightliner's 90042 leads the set of Mk. III stock that started out, as usual from Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen all coming together in the middle of the night at Edinburgh. In theory, this should be the final up sleeper using the thirty-year-old stock prior to the introduction of the CAF Mk. IV stock. However, with yet more problems appearing within the software systems of the new stock, this has been pushed back again to Septemeber at the earliest.
